Meteorologist is a simple interface to weather provided by weather.com. Meteorologist provides the ability to show the weather in the main menu or the dock, each displaying more detail in a pop-up menu, whose contents are customizeable from the preferences. You can also change several of the appearance settings for the dock, in addition to setting whether to display temperature data in Celsius or Fahrenheit. The source code is available.

Abandonware.

At one time it was among the top weather apps, certainly the top menu bar weather app. Alas, it is no longer compatible with the latest OS X release, and it was last updated nearly two years ago.

This is a comment instead of a review since it is not compatible with Mavericks.

This is an excellent app, except that the current version is buggy with OS 10.9.2. It will freeze up and not update information either automatically, or even using "Refresh" in the Controls. I have to quit the app, then relaunch it. I do hope Meteorologist is updated for Mavericks!

Meteorologist has broken for me after updating to Mavericks 10.9.2. If this is true for others, maybe there's a chance for a "maintenance update?" I have used Meteo for years!

Thanks.

This application has worked perfectly every day over many years. I have never, ever had any problems with it. Thank you for such a useful tool.

I love Meteorologist, when it works. Sometimes it functions, most of the time it doesn't on 10.8.5 and the link to the previous version seems dead. Unfortunately there is nothing else like it that works.

Update: I have found that if I launch it repeatedly it will eventually 'catch' and run, usually just a few times but never more than 5-10. This is on a current MacPro running 10.8.5.

With 10.9 it now takes about 5 launch tries before it sticks in the menu bar. With 10.8 it usually worked the second time on my 2008 Mac Pro.

I just read on the developers web site: "Right (or Control) click and say OPEN". I haven't tried it, but it seems to eliminate the prospect of automatic launch at start-up. On the plus-side, it still works!

I just installed it for the first time. I'm in Snow Leopard on an old 2008 Intel... and I got zip. I clicked on it a few dozen times and it doesn't even start at all.

Oops! My bad. I thought this opened as an App. It doesn't. It just shows up at the top on the Monitor as a little extra pull-down.

By the way... I'm not all that big on the Weather Channel. They've become as insipid as the History Channel doing silly bits like "When Rain Showers Attack!!!"

Deleting preferences works on 10.8.3 but you have to do it every time you restart. An update is really whats needed.

If you can't get 1.6.1 to work with the latest OS or a developer preview, try 1.5.6. Working fine for me :)

Version 1.5.6 still works with OS 10.8.3. Don't know why version 1/6/1 won't.

I've been using Meteorologist for about a year now and like it but it's stopped working in OS 10.8.3. I reinstalled it and still won't work. Hope it gets fixed soon!

Just go to /YourHardDrive/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ and throw out the file com.heat.meteo.plist . You will just to have to add your Cities back but it will fix your problem.
