What's New
Version 6.0.1:

New:

  • Improved performance using OpenCL, especially when used on Mac OSX v10.7.4 or later.

For details of GPU acceleration in Premiere Pro, see this page For details of OpenCL features in Premiere Pro CS6, see this page

  • Added encoding presets with additional bit-rate settings for XDCAM HD.
  • Added Automatic Peak File Generation preference in the Audio category for turning off automatic peak file generation for imported audio. By default, this preference is enabled and matches the behavior of Premiere Pro CS6 (6.0.0). When this preference is disabled, importing audio or opening projects will not cause peak files to be generated. If peak files were already generated, then waveforms will be visible. Files imported before the preference was disabled will continue to generate peak files.
  • Enabled "smart rendering" and added Enable Smart Rendering Codec setting to the Video tab of the MXF OP1a exporters for XDCAM HD and XDCAM EX to enable or disable smart rendering for these formats. This option defaults to the off/disabled state. We'll have more information about this feature in a post on this blog within a day.
  • See details of the Adobe Media Encoder CS6 (6.0.1) update for more information about changes that affect output from Premiere Pro CS6.
Bug Fixes:
  • Start timecode was not imported or exported correctly when working with AAF files.
  • Some files from the Canon 5D Mark III camera were imported with the wrong timecode.
  • Playing/viewing waveforms in the Source Monitor caused audio dropouts with some XDCAM HD clips.
  • NTSC MXF OP1a files that were exported with drop-frame timecode had video data that was tagged as non-drop-frame.
  • Switching the Renderer project setting from Mercury Playback Engine Software Only to Mercury Playback Acceleration GPU Acceleration on a computer using OpenCL caused Premiere Pro to crash under some circumstances. Switching between the two settings on a computer using CUDA would in some cases cause problems with video and/or audio playback.
  • Crash when using full-screen, cinema mode on some computer systems.
  • Tape capture was not working correctly with some third-party systems.
  • Crash when capturing from tape using some BlackMagic hardware.
  • An extra, black frame was included at the end of the output when exporting to P2 MXF in some circumstances.
  • First two frames were being played twice on external monitor using Matrox MXO2.
  • Crash when using "hover scrub" with Matrox MXO2.
  • Audio/video synchronization was off by a few frames when playing video on external monitor.
  • The Export Frame button was not exporting the correct frame, instead exporting a frame one or two frames away from the current frame.
  • Some audio files and some MXF files would go offline or have their audio reconformed when the project was re-opened or when Premiere Pro was minimized or lost focus.
  • Crash when modifying an effect property while playback was occurring.
  • Hang/freeze when using a dissolve transition on an adjustment layer.
  • Dropped frames and audio/video synchronization issues when exporting to tape using some third-party hardware.
  • Information about dropped frames on output to tape was not accessible to third-party systems.
  • Some QuickTime files were imported with the wrong field order.
  • When audio was sent through a Mercury Transmit plug-in, any number of channels that was not 2 or 6 was treated as mono.
  • In HDV editing mode, File > Export > Tape could not be used with third-party hardware.
  • The current-time indicator (playhead) was not returning to the current time after using the Play Around command.
  • Last several frames of output when exporting to tape were black.
  • When encoding a 23.976 fps video to H.264, the duration of the video in the output .m4v file was too short, and audio drifted out of synchronization with the video.
  • Transparency (alpha channel) information from a dynamically linked After Effects composition was rendered incorrectly in Premiere Pro.
  • Importing some QuickTime OP1a files caused Premiere Pro to hang.
  • The duration of the audio track sent to SpeedGrade using the Send To SpeedGrade command was the length of the entire Premiere Pro sequence, not the length of the work area.
  • Timecode written to trimmed clips using the Project Manager did not match the source timecode for some QuickTime files.
  • Various other crashes.

After using FCP Studio Pro for many years decided to make the change to ADOBE PREMIER PRO. All I can say that if you RTFM and spend a bit of time learning to use the interface - THEN - it beats FCP hands down !! Excellent software and will not go back to FCP. I think that the negative reviews are from people who have only given the software a cursory glance and have not actually used it to complete a project from end to end. I still edit using ProRes - in APP - and use Compressor to deinterlace the master pro-res files. Finally CUDA speeds up rendering and saves tons of time. So all in all a great combination. Sayonara FCP - was great while it lasted ! [ MAC PRO 3,1 - 16GIG RAM, SSD Boot drive, Snowleopard, Nvidia Quadro 4000. ] Final word - read the damned manual and use ADOBE TV to learn.

You mention the app will not even launch fully? Have you tried creating a new user with no 3rd party prefpanes or startup items and then launch it from that user? Did you look at the logs? I would expect if you had tech support on the phone they already suggested all this, but just in case, I thought I'd pose the question. The one Mac I don't have is a late model 8 core Mac Pro.

Does not work on my 2009 MacPro 8 core Nehalem with Snow Leopard. Of course Final Cut Pro does work just fine so I can continue my work. My advice is to avoid this software because the team that works on this must be dysfunctional. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign work just fine! Premiere Pro won't even open properly. Too bad I wasted my money!

I recently upgraded from the Creative Design Suite CS3 to the Master Collection Suite CS4. Everything runs great, with one exception: Adobe Premiere Pro, which is THE reason I decided to go with the Master Suite. I was so impressed with On Location to manage my rapidly growing stock footage library, which is part of Premiere Pro and you can't use it, if Premiere Pro crashes on launch. I spent all day on the phone with Adobe tech support, being routed deeper into their system three times before I reached the Premiere Pro expert. He was pleasant and patient and we tried everything he knew, but without success. He said, "it's an extension conflict with Apple, and they'll have to fix it before my program will work on a Mac.

When you invest $2,400 in software--this is not the "pass the buck" solution you expect. Waiting for some programmer to write some code in the hopes you might eventually be able to use this software. If I want it sooner, I'll have to pay $70 an hour to speak to Apple tech support. Then, today, I watched a tutorial on Premiere Pro CS4 on a Macintosh computer. Go figure! If you're on a Mac, I'd hold off buying this upgrade until the bug fix is in. If anyone has an answer, I'm ready to hear it.

Sanchai had trouble on 05 Sep 2010
It turned out in the crash report that Premiere Pro CS% 5.0.2 and After Effects CS5 10.0.1 crash on startup is attributed to conflict with Joesoft Hear audio enhancer.

com.joesoft.hal which resided in Hear.plugin, located in /Library/Audio/Plug_ins/HAL is the culprit.

To run Premiere Pro and After Effects with Hear installed, the options are:

1. Uninstall Hear completely by using Uninstall Menu in Hear application menu

or

2. start Hear, disable it, then go to /Library/Audio/Plug_ins/HAL and move Hear.plugin to other location

Then run Premiere Pro and After Effects as you wish

After finished, reverse by move Hear.plugin into its original location, and enable Hear

This is workaround. I have wrote to Joesoft to get them to solve this problem, perhaps, new version that work

I also found from my search that Hear also crash BeaTunes as well

Sanchai had trouble on 02 Sep 2010
After upgrading to 5.0.2, Premiere Pro 5.0.2 crash on startup with EXC_CRASH (SIGABRT) error on the crash log.

My Mac is Macbook Pro early 2008, Intel, running OSX 10.6.4

However, in some unpredicatble startup, it start up OK,

Don't know what is the problem but it won't work for me. Uninstall and reinstall won't work either

Help please

although this is neither a mac help forum nor am i sure whether it is the right place for help requests, nevertheless, it may be of use for all in the same situation:

- in most cases there are access problems due to incorrect file/folder permissions:
so, i recommend repairing the permissions with e.g. Disk Utility

- in other cases the desktop file (more or less the TOC of your volume) may be out of order or damaged:
i suggest repairing the volume from another partition or suited statup disk with Disk Warrior

only if these two measures do not yield any improvement, there are probably file conflicts/incompatibilities of installed/running processes that require further tedious investigation.
