Check top. Even when idle DeskDoodle is using cpu (betwen 0.7 and 2.5%). Desktastic uses 0.0% when idle.

Nothing on Panic, they're great (thanks for letting Audion retire as a free app!), but if you're considering this type of program, check out Deskdoodle too. I was looking for something to handle quick screenshots of project notes; evaluated Desktastic, Ultimate Pen and Deskdoodle, and ended up going with Deskdoodle. Your mileage may vary ...

I've used version 3.0 for awhile, and have found that the program functions very well under OS 10.3.3. The controls are intuitive and many of the features that were originally omitted (i.e. system wide hotkey) are now standard. Yes, there is some cost associated with the program, but spending a few bucks to support the efforts of the programmer will contribute to further revision and enhancements. This is a point of particular note, as the team that created Desktastic were responsive to the shortcomings identified by users of version 2.0.

Long time Mac user was excited about it's claims, but it turns out it doesn't work with OS 10.2.3. Tech support ignored my attempts to contact them. Very disappointed and frustrated.
