This is an outstanding application. I have found the support to have problems, though, especially their attitude, which comes across too often as "*** the customer." This is a shame, as my company would spend more money with this supplier if only they'd let me. I searched for training courses for this software. It would be useful if there was a two or three day course on how to use it, to send our guys on. Does anyone know of such a course?

Aabel is really an amazing program. I found Aabel because I was looking for a graphing program that would make high quality graphs (those of you who have tried to use Excel graphs within InDesign know how problematic printing can be). Aabel's interface can be a bit quirky, especially the first time you use it. However, the program is extremely powerful and is fairly ease to use for many tasks (once you gain some experience using it). After working with Excel graphics, my first thought is to want to click on the graph to change something. With Aabel you have to retrain yourself to how you create a graph. This is not a bad thing, just different.

Aabel is more than a graphing program though and can do quite a bit of statistical analysis as well as data manipulation. One super cool feature is the button above the data columns in the worksheet view. Click on this button and you get a graph that combines a PDF, a CDF, as well as an adjustable histogram and other basic statistics. This sounds wierd but the graph is very easy to intrepret. It is a great way to see how your data is distributed without having to do anything other than getting the data into Aabel. As an economist, looking a a PDF and CDF is often the first thing I want to do, so this feature alone is quite valuable.

Overall a very useful package for anyone wanting to produce scientific plots. It has a few quirky limitations, but also some strengths that are not easily duplicated in other graphing packages. Note also that version 2 has added a lot of extra statistical analyses compared to v1, and could be used as a light/occasional stats package in addition to its graph-drawing abilities. (NB I've always had replies to my bug reports/tech support requests, and they have implemented feature requests that I made for things not included in v1, e.g. multiple column selection for adjusting line styles.)

We have used Aabel 1.x for two years and have found it to be an amazingly useful application. It appears that 2.0 continues the trend. Gigawiz has always been very responsive with patches as well as with adding new features. With the new features I will now be able to dump JMP IN and I can now use it as one of the mapping applications (because of the gridder and shape file import) in my cartography course as well as in my statistics course. Aabel is well worth the price.

Aside from the fact that this really is an amazing application, I have never had problems with Aabel support. Yes the application has bugs, but Gigawiz has always been extremely responsive to bug reports, frequently proving same-day patches. Perhaps if the previous reviewer had spent as much time actually trying to contact the company as he did writing his review, he wouldn't have had as bad an experience.

Stay away from this App. It has many bugs and inconsitencies, but much worse, I have had many problems with the developer. At first, they were responsive. After I sent in a few bug reports, the developer stopped responding all together. I repeatedly emailed the developer for a status update, nothing. The bug reports I sent in were very detailed with sample files and even screen movies of the bugs in action. They never responded, and the bugs were not fixed.

Unfortunately, the app would be pretty good if not for the bugs and lack of documentation for some of the statistical tests. But in the end, do not waste your money. You will be very frustrated when you are writing a manuscript and you can't get your graphics to produce correctly becuase of the bugs.

This is a spectacular program for scientific data visualization and analysis. The learning curve is a bit steep but it has capabilities that no other MacOS X program has
