MailPictures is a plug in for the Mail application shipping with Mac OS X. MailPictures allows you to have your image show up in your mail message when you send it to a user who has the MailPictures installed. It works completely transparent to the user, no further intervention is required. It also uses the build in mechanism provided by Mac OS X and (optionally .Mac) for storage and display of the images (see AddressBook application for more details). This is not only a very geeky feature of Mac OS X, but an invaluable tool to recognize people who you only know by email. The more people who are using

Requirements
PPC, Mac OS X 10.4 or later, Apple's Mail.app.

Nope, don't have it anymore, but would be great to be able to get in contact with the developer.
Anyone have an email or something?
The site now points to mailpictures.org, but that does not work either.. :-(
Even the latest one doesn't work with tiger? I have a piuc of mine in address book and when I send mail to myself it doesn't show the pic in notification window nor do I see in the apple's mail. can some correct my config?

However, i like the ability it gives to send HTML mail. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be functioning properly!

I'd rather have this thing exchanging pictures and storing them for me than having to manually hand out my picture. Plus, i only keep close acquaintances in my address book and this lets me see the pictures of other people i communicate infrequently with from mailing lists and boards.
Because of it's simplicity, i think it's unfortunate that more mail readers don't display the X-Face header. I'm not wild about having to have a link to my picture in my email headers.

This works quite nicely. I don't agree with the point of view that it's better to accumulate tons of pictures than to install the plugin once and for all. Of course, the success of this system depends on adoption rate (which so far seems slow); so I'd love to see a version of this for common Windows mail clients.

In OS X if you have a picture of someone in your Address Book and the e-mail entry matches an incoming e-mail, you will see their picture. No plugin necessary. If you want your friends to see your picture, just e-mail them a picture to put in their address book. Much better than requiring them to install software!!!

Really liked previous versions of this, but i have a major problem with the current release.
IT DOES NOT DO WHAT IT SAYS.
Even if BOTH boxes are unchecked, it still adds the X-Face and Mailpicture headers anyway.
Can't rate the features high if they don't work. It's easy not to use this and that works about as well. Nonworking it has no value. Trying to rate stability of nonfunctional software is like dividing by zero.
This caused Mail to freeze up the main window. I could still go into/modify prefs, but the main window didn't display anything and I couldn't view any text/images in the preview pane. I could only fix it by deleting the MailPictures .bundle file in the user's folder. Definately needs some work.
