Mr. Tides is a Universal application for Mac OS X 10.4 that displays tides and currents for locations around the world. Written completely in Objective-C, Mr. Tides 3 is compatible with both Intel and PPC Macintosh computers.
Mr. Tides 3 has several changes over the previous version. It uses the Sparkle update engine for seamless updating and the latest XTIDE database engine for access to the harmonics data files. The views are simpler, the database uses Core Data for speed and robustness, and Core Animation is used in the Day view. The maps are now satellite images that can be
What's New
Version 3.0 release 16:
Updated the harmonics files to remove duplicate stations caused by importing all the old NOAA stations. They changed a lot of the station names, so there were a lot of duplicates. Unfortunately, this will affect some saved stations - they won't be found in the databases and so won't open.
Current substations compute their slack times correctly now. Before, in certain cases the slack times were out of order and caused Mr. Tides to either crash or not display any data.
Fixed a bug when the first entry in the text view was astronomical, it would show the tide events under a duplicated date after the astronomical entry.
Text view now finds the correct top three maximum and minimum events.
Printer settings for orientation and scale are now saved for the Day, Calendar, and Text views (Clock view can't be printed. If you try, it will just return to the application and not do anything.)
Changing the printer settings no longer asks twice if you want to save the changes.

I've been using this app for several years and have really found it useful, not only to plan my field work, but as an educational tool for students in my oceanography or marine biology courses.
Unfortunately, the newest version has taken a step backwards, in my opinion. The satellite images are a nice visual touch, but take some time to load (10s?) when you are switching views. Please consider returning to a faster or less graphic intensive mode.
Second, the calendar view of 'month' is much less informative that in the previous version, at least graphically. In the previous version, the colors for rising/falling/neagive tides were displayed on the month view. In the current version, the calendar view graphics have been simplified and there isn't a way to display these colors. This was useful in showing students the changes in a month at a glance and makes it easier to find that elusive minus tide. You can still see the colors in the DAY view, but no longer the calendar month view. Please consider providing the colors as an option on the calendar view. (And gimme back those old moon phase icons - they were cool!).
Lastly - what happened to the "X" in the app name?
In any case, I hope you will consider my suggestions and continue to improve the app.
A top-notch tides tracker. We live near the Jersey Shore and use this app. to accurately track tides at multiple locations. The author is very responsive to suggestions and provides quick-turnaround on bug fixes. An excellent piece of work.
This continues to be a fine application that I use frequently to casually track the tides where I live in Mexico. I've conversed with the developer via email on a few occasions and he's very responsive.
I can't believe this App is free! Excellent sums up the features, ease of use, value & stability.
Thumbs up.

A very nice app and the developer is quite responsive and nice... been using this app for several years now.

Developer is responsive to emails, actively engaged in development. The app works, perhaps a bit slow but it works quite well. Especially important for me in this version is the inclusion of an update checker so that the new TCD file format (which combines the harmonics and offsets files) gets updated without me having to go to another website to download the latest harmonics/offsets files. Nice!
My thanks to the developer.

Works great! I am into photography and live close to the Atlantic and it's great to keep track of tides. The interface is perhaps not the most elegant but hey, for the price (FREE!) it's great! OK, so I say great a lot but this is a great piece of software :-)

You can still export tides and astronomical information to iCal, and now station locations can be exported to MacENC and GPSNavX via an XML file. Open stations are now documents that can be saved to any location.
