Script Debugger provides everything you need to quickly and easily author AppleScripts that work. No other scripting tool can match Script Debugger's capabilities for creating, editing and debugging AppleScripts. Its sophisticated Dictionary browser provides far more information than any other tool can and eliminates guesswork and needless experimentation. Simply put, Script Debugger makes AppleScript easy.
What's New
Version 4.5.7:

Bug Fixes

  • Addressed a problem where the Dictionary/Explorer control in the Dictionary window was not updated to 'Dictionary' following a search.
  • Added support for ASObjC scripts by allowing 'class "ClassName"' constructs to compile.
  • Script Debugger no longer attempts to compile scripts when saving changes to an existing Text (.applescript) document.
  • Script Debugger no longer causes AppleScript to convert "reference" to "specifier" when compiling scripts.
  • Script Debugger no longer crashes when creating new documents on Lion (Mac OS X 10.7).
  • Resolved a bug in the Balance command that could result in crashes if compound AppleScript statements tell x to y, if x then y) appear within a block style comment.
  • Another attempt to resolve the intermittent crashes which began with the release of Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard).
  • Resolved a problem where the Dictionary window fails to dictionary descriptions for multiple items selected from the browser.
  • Resolved a problem where application bundles saved as 32-bit appear as PowerPC applications in the Finder.
  • Fixed a typo in the property definition clipping.
  • Script Debugger 4.5 can now co-exist with installations of the forthcoming Script Debugger 5.0.

I have out of purchasing the app for a long time, put due to the price I always backdown at the last moment, but I eventually decided that it is a pretty featured app for a small market and the amount of time and grief it will save me is worth it, especially now that I spend a lot more time to write AppleSript for motor own use, if you are a profession AppleSctipt developer you would be crazy not to purchase ScriptDugger.

Amazing app. I couldn't imagine doing AppleScript without it.

The single best feature for me is the ability to "Explore" applications instead of having to decipher the dictionary yourself. Once you find the AppleScript classes and properties you want, just drag those to the editor and get a correctly nested/referenced call. Cuts development time to a fraction. For me, this feature alone is worth the price of the app.

This is a really nice piece of software. It is what should be shipped with applescript on the mac. If you need or use applescript then you should get this.

yeah that would be a good way to double the price of os x :(

Surely I can't afford this very nice piece of software, but...
if your'e deep into AppleScript this is a nice way to go.

For the others: use the built-in AppleScript-Editor. You should enable some stuff in the preferences (Assistent,... ) and also try CONTROL-CLICKing in a source-window.

Cheers.

Great piece of software. Code line ending using a semicolon would be really great in AppleScript.
I am switching between Objective-C and AppleScript and I am often making such a mistake…
display dialog "Test";
;-)

Good luck!

As a new-comer to AppleScript I was struggling to both understand Dictionaries and also to debug my code using the good, but somewhat limited, Apple Script Editor. Althought as a hobbyist I was somewhat put off by the relatively high price I downloaded ScriptDebugger and instantly fell in love. This is a fantastically powerful development environment which makes understanding applications' dictionaries much easier and provides extremely powerful debugging tools. As a birthday present to myself I bought a copy and I am delighted and know that the price of the application will be recouped many times over by the time Script Debugger will save me whilst writing scripts.

It just doesn't get any better than this. Script Debugger is absolutely the best AppleScript development environment availabe. The developer is very responsive to users and, based on user feedback, we've been told that SD 4 will be ported to Cocoa. With the attention to quality and detail that is always present in Script Debugger, I'm guessing that SD 4 will be one of the best Cocoa apps ever produced.

Script Debugger is the only way I can successfully write complex AppleScripts. If you make AppleScripts, you need SD!
