NMP3 Ripper... Simply the easiest and most satisfying way to get extremely high quality mp3s in Mac OS X. Period. NMP3 Ripper uses the LAME mp3 encoding engine which to my ears and many, many others provides the best sound quality / filesize ratio available. It has freedb and id3 tag support so you don't have to type in track names and crap like that. If you're looking for a fast and easy way to create high quality mp3 rips, this is it. One mouse click to rip and entire CD. It doesn't get any easier than that.

Generates great error messages, nothing else so far. Beware, time waster.

Great program, glad I found it. I was tired of having to open up iTunes every time I wanted to rip a CD, this program uses half of the memory of iTunes. One problem I had was actually the first time I used NMP3. I ripped a CD, and one track was nothing but static, not sure why that happened, but it hasn't happened since.

Thanks guys, you're almost there! Please take a look at a Windows-based CDex program (which I consider to be the best and very user-friendly). Make an Options pane (instead of just 'Expert' string field), let user select these via drop-lists or radio buttons - I mean CBR-VBR, max/min bitrate etc., and it will become an excellent app instead of just good one...

It's just a GUI frontend to LAME, guys, don't review it as if it's its own encoder. And LAME is the best there is; use the alt-presets and you're guaranteed almost transparent rips. Check out hydrogenaudio.org if you doubt.

To my ears, bass is much better defined and treble has less hash than iTunes-ripped MP3s. Midrange is warm and fat, too fat for my taste on some instruments. Piano chords sound almost like organ. Thus, I would say, this is a great MP3 ripper for some but not all material. AAC (iTunes 4) files sound better than any MP3 at relatively low bit rates. But if you want to stick with generic MP3, this little program, at the irresistable price of free, is well worth tinkering with.

Does what it says. Works perfectly. I am creating a MP3 library of my home CDs with this. MPegger Drop Decoder 2.0.1 just gave me a sound file full of distortion.

In regards to what Eve posted, ripping a cd takes a good majority of a systems cpu so minimizing the window is a bad idea just for the fact that it would encourage a user to run other applications, possibly causing you to lose rip quality. If anything, the ripping window could be made smaller just by re-arranging the options.

In response to Anonymous, you are mistaken. Whether or not FreeDB recognizes the cd it can still be burned with no problems.

This app rips CDs *much* better than iTunes, even iTunes 4. Not as fast as iTunes, but the results are crisp and clear.

Suggestion... it would be nice to minimize the window to the dock, using the standard buttons, while ripping. While I realize I can probably hide this app, I'd think it'd be a nice feature to add.
