It is very unfortunate that this niche product is falling by the wayside in Lion. I have been a long time customer of the very useful PowerKey products, dating all the way back to the days of the Apple Desktop Bus.I own and daily use PowerKey Pro units on 2 Macs, one in the office, and one in the studio, Both Macs are running OS X 10.6.8, and yes, occasionally PowerKey's background application crashes and has to be relaunched at startup, but it has never caused devices not to turn on or off as they should, and a computer restart has never been necessary to restore operation.PowerKey's utility is high for me on both systems to manage timely power-up of essential outboard equipment at startup. But the greatest utility comes when I leave the computer to complete a task and shutdown on its own: I know PowerKey will take care of shutting down all connected peripherals. It has never failed me. Very cool. I have not yet made the leap to Lion, but when I do, PowerKey will become a much more basic power strip with functional buttons and LEDs. It has been a 5-star product for me, but given its apparent demise, I can no longer recommend it.(Sophisticated Circuits says on their website that there is a possibility that the software may be revived in the future. I'm not holding my breath, but I'm also not tossing out my PowerKey Pro box!)
Once a very nice system of application and hardware, now hampered by incompatibilities with Snow Leopard and crashes accordingly. Hardware is useless without software. Software tries to modify something with admin privileges every time it runs and crashes in the effort. Software reloads do not help. Occurs regardless of system used under Snow Leopard. Still works under Leopard but does get twitchy
Epic fail. :-( We have 4 devices, all now useless.
