Well X resource graph has a much better look, more options, but doesn't check mail. Anyway, Mail.app does and allows you to read it, so....

Not impressive. First it is fun then it is slow and sometimes buggy. This is a shareware? No way. By the way, thank you people for your reviews: MenuMeters is free and it works :)
[Version 1.9.5]
Anonymousreviewed on 25 May 2004
Useless, MenuMeters is far better.

Just more Realbasic BleedEveryPossibleCentFromPeopleWhoDontKnowOfBetterFreeAlternativesWare. X Resource Graph is much nicer looking, and free.

this isnt my favorite simply because menu meters is better.......and still works in panther.....but if MM didnt work right now id use this app because it does what it says...
If your demo version has expired, you can use this command (in the Terminal) to extend the demo period.
IF YOU DO THIS, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU COPY AND PASTE IT PRECISELY HOW IT APPEARS BELOW. FAILURE TO DO SO COULD ERASE YOUR DOCUMENTS FOLDER, OR WORSE.
If you don't wish to use the command line, find a utility that lets you see 'invisible' files and then delete the ".nm" folder which is in your Documents folder.
rm -ri ~/Documents/.nm/

Tried this out a long time ago. Just downloaded the new version but it tells me my demo period has expired, so I can't tell what is new/changed.
X Resource Graph is an excellent system monitor that does something similar and is free: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/10220

To call MenuMeters a "hack" means nothing. MM *does*, however, use unsupported means of getting its graphics (conveniently, IMHO) into the menu bar. I don't think there is anything dangerous about this, i.e. it is very unlikely to destabilize OS X. However, there is a downside to everything: it is quite possible that, after I have become totally dependent upon MenuMeters, Apple will "pull a Microsoft", whereby OS X 10.3 will be deliberately changed to prevent "unauthorized use of the menu bar". Hopefully, Apple will recall their longtime slogan "Think Different" and leave the API's used by MenuMeters (rather, its underlying software) alone unless there is a valid reason to change them.

Menu meter is not a hack, it is a PrefPane and it can be installed in you user Library, away from the system.
