BookWorm overview

BookWorm is a specialized word processor to aid those who write stories/novels. BookWorm has 3 visible windows. One for the main story, and one each for chapter notes, and characters. Chapter notes are always 'synced' to their chapter, but characters are global and always visible. Stories are treated as projects, with their own folder and associated files.

For goodness sake, give this rubbish the flick and take a serious look at Scrivener. http://www.literatureandlatte.com/ Read the notes that come with the free betas. Scrivener is almost at beta 3. Read the forum notes and no time you'll switch if you are a serious writer.

I have just bought CopyWrite and it seems to do the trick. The full screen feature is a good tool. So if this app isnt what you are looking for, I recomend a look at CopyWrite.

Oh no! It's the return of the bad z-write knockoff! Jesus saves, and copies your API. Sheesh.

Wow. Window now has a nauseating sea-green color. On the plus side: Software does not threaten to blow up immediately. Progess has been made. Praise the Lord. What on earth is the "Character" window for? It does not have any hot links to any chapter text. An author who needs a list of characters which does nothing to search in the actual manuscript is paddling his yacht instead of sailing it. Word to the author: Confucius say, "man who attempt to walk on water without divine intervention often considered to be 'all wet' ". Like I said: Any programmer can slap together three text views in a single window. It takes something more to make them talk to each other. This author would better devote a little less time to the Lord and more time to the Cocoa frameworks. No man can serve two masters.

Pretty spooky program. Odd interface. Reacts slowly (i can just feel it wanting to crash). 8^o Everything about it seems peculiar. Can't really recommend it. Certainly not for $20.

It's pretty bad. I've been a Cocoa developer for a year or so, but it's child's play to slap three text views in a window and cadge together a few menus for servicing them in this kind of theme. Of course BookWorm is not a Cocoa app, as far as I can tell - no bundle to explore. The menus are unresponsive at times, and it took several tries just to get the app to pick up a terminate signal. What is this? RealBasic? Java? It can't be Carbon because there's two versions - one for X and one for 9. Now that I know I can slap together an app like this and ask 20 bucks for a reg key, the future looks bright.

I can only surmise that the author has gotten some of his friends to post reviews here. Anyone who actually tries to USE this abomination will rapidly realize that it is a candidate for Worst Program Ever.

Calling it a ripoff is an unsubstantiated accusation. Few programs don't resemble others. It's great that so many options are becoming available for OS X folks to choose from. Will return to give it an actual review when i've had a chance to give it a full test.

Book work is a great app. Why I haven't bought it is because I haven't actually written anything requiring any level of organization, so I've mostly just tested it then trashed it. Anyway, BookWork is great for one thing in particular, and is useful enough that I'll probably break dow and buy it if I start using it again: Writing RPG campaigns. NPCs go in characters, and the rest is all story. For THESE purposes I would like a couple more features, but beyond that, BookWorm is an excellent program. Maybe a "scrap paper" pad would be cool, just a place for unorganized random ideas to wait for the light of day... hmmm... email time.

Come on guys. If you didn't review the entire program, don't post a review. "I found one bug, made it crash. This program sucks." Some of us really need to grow up. If you are going to post a review, look at the entire program, its good points and its bad. And experiment before you say "it wouldn't let me do this", a lot of the time the problem isn't the program, but the user. I have had no problem doing multiple chapters.

A rip-off of Z-Write, which is also $20. The author never really bother to post the improvement.

Contrary to the comments of the other reviewers, I found BookWorm very helpful. Multiple chapters are possible (not sure why the previous reviewer could only make one chapter). And, although I have encountered a couple of bugs (mostly involving chapter deletion), the benefits outweigh the speedbumps. I am not aware of another low price program for writing stories or scripts. Good job and keep it coming.

Sloppy. I found a bug (which crashed the app) in less than 20 seconds. I haven't bothered to go any further.

This is a great concept, but because it will not make more than one chapter, I cannot say that it is exactly a good application.
