The new 1.16.1 patch for StarCraft Broodwar is great. Besides the fact that the game is now almost 11 years old (10 years, 10 months at the time of this review) and Blizzard is still making efforts to keep the game alive, this update is absolutely fantastic. I own a laptop with power scaling properties and most of the games, including the 1.5 version of StarCraft, use 100% of the processor. But this patch fixed this problem, and now I can enjoy a silent match (no overheating, no fan needed) with the Zerg and save battery at the same time.
I highly recommend you to update your Starcraft expansion. If you don't own it you can buy the licensed version for $15 from the blizzard website (digital download), or download Starcraft and Broodwar Expansion from gamegoldies.org - MAC or PC.

This is a spam review from a pirate software site. He recommends downloading the game from his own site.

Finally! SC doesn't eat up 100% of the CPU anymore!

Hey Stormchild,
this is NOT a general problem! Runs just fine in fullscreen in OS X for ages. Have you started the Prog holding alternate and then deselected "Don't switch resolutions" in the Advanced Tab?

Unfortunately, StarCraft does not run in full screen mode in OS X, and Blizzard apparently has no plans to fix it. It will enter what it calls "full screen mode", but the game is a small 640x480 rectangle in the center of the screen. It does not scale to use the entire display. I have tried turning the "Do not adjust display resolution" option on and off, and manually changing my resolution to 640x480, but no matter what I do, it always changes back to the native res as soon as StarCraft enters its so-called "full screen" mode, and I end up with a tiny box surrounded by black.

As this makes the game completely unplayable, I attempted to work this out with Blizzard support. Unfortunately, the tech support rep I dealt with was either borderline illiterate or just completely incompetent, and kept telling me to try things I had already done, even though I clearly and repeatedly listed all the steps I had taken to resolve it. I eventually gave up on the idiot.

In the end, I don't think they really care if this works or not. The only thing I'm confused about is why Blizzard bothers to keep updating the game, without fixing this problem, when it makes it completely unplayable. What's the point?

What issue? I've been playing over Battlenet using Warcraft III: TFT for at least a year now.

It is simply amazing that a software company would continue to release updates to fix and improve a game released over 10 years ago. There is nobody else in the business who does it like Blizzard.

It is about time! It fixes the 256-color support that caused the game to not load. Now I patiently wait for Diablo 2 and Lord of Expansion fixes.

Actually the 256 bug is fixed by apple in 10.5.5 anyway so it's almost seems like a pointless gesture now from blizzard. it was apples bug to begin with by removing the 256 support from drivers, so they returned it in 10.5.5 beta seeds.

I knew it was Apple's fault, but I did not know that 10.5.5 seeds restored 256-color support (I have no access to seeds). That's good to know.
