HP DeskJet printer

Business Inkjet 1100 now ready to print (and also printing) a lot faster in tiger - double sided and everything is working fine, which wasn't always the case before. Colour options are still a bit arcane, thoug.
This version of the driver was included on Intel Macs. I've had no problems whatsoever printing wirelessly to my Deskjet 6540 via Airport. I also recently installed this on all 3 PPC Macs in the house, 2 wireless and one ethernet, all via Airport. It's been much better than that POS v2.7, which would stall in the middle of print jobs. No complaints here.

I'm not frustrated.
I'm not angry.
I am FURIOUS!!!
If you bought a HP product, poor you. You should have chosen ANY other product.
2 printers, both more than 1 year old print out distorted prints. (They did not do that when they were brand new). Both 2170 and 2175! :(
The scanning software refuses to scan, it claims there is not enough disk space, although there is much much more than the estimated size.
I CANNOT USE THIS CRAP!

I also noted that I had lost the choice of paper type, print quality, and color vs grayscale with 2.7.1.
I went to the HP Web site and found the appropriate place to explain my concerns.
About 36 hours later I received very detailed instructions on clearing various items and reinstalling 2.7.1.
Worked out fine. Got back all of the things that had been lost. The first time I tried to print though, I ran into a could not communicate with printer message. Cancelled the job, turned off the printer. Seems to work fine now.
Thanks to the person who said look at what you have first. I looked and my Mac reported 2.7.2 which must have come on my Panther install DVD I any event this is very nice software, We have a pair of HPs on the house (along with an old Apple laser printer) and both work extremely well and economiocally. We've tried Lexmarks and Epsons with less luck. The Lexmarks ate supplies at fast rate and had so-so quality, while the 3 different Epsons printed spectacularly but all proved mechanically unreliable.

I'm very happy with the new driver in Panther. The 2 awfulnesses of the previous versions - misaligned double-sided printing, and taking 20 minutes to print each page - have finally been fixed on my Business Inkjet 1100. Well done HP - though a smack on the bottom for being so insistant last year that my problem wasn't driver-related...

Before installing the HP driver, I opened Printer Setup (OS X 10.4.1) and version 2.7.1 was already present.

Well, on my iBook running 10.3.9, I had version 2.5 of the HP driver present before I installed this version 2.7.1
Maybe Tiger had the driver before it was released to the general public as a standalone download... whatever.
Horray!
Again I can again print from my G4 PowerBook (OS 10.4.1) through my airport network to my Deskjet 5650, this capability had been lost for well over a year. Hopefully the printer response to my G% PowerMac (OS 10.4.1) will significantly less erratic than it was with the previous driver.
