Ah, yes, the Apple calculator app does tell the answers - and does do conversions. BUT, the years have taught me that "how" can occasionally be as important as "what". ConverTable Units tells me both "how"and "what". This app shows one how the answeres are derived. That is especially good for those of us who are math challenged and care about it. I suppose that the same might apply to students who are trying to understand math or parents of students who are trying to understand math. Good app.

Doesn't Apple's calculator app have this function built in?

The answer to the question, "Doesn't Apple's calculator app have this function built in?" is "while some of the functions overlap, there are many features in ConverTable Units not available in Apple's calculator app."

Apple's Calculator app (at least in OS X 10.3 Panther), includes slightly over 100 units to convert between. ConverTable Units currently includes over 400 units, and you can add your own units via plug-ins, which you cannot do with Apple's Calculator app.

ConverTable Units shows you the math and method behind the conversions; it is a teaching tool, Apple's Calculator app does not show the math or method behind its conversions.

ConverTable Units' calculator has an RPN mode, which Apple's Calculator app does not have.

ConverTable Units can convert units in external text files, which is very handy for converting large sets of data.

The main purpose of Apple's Calculator app is to be a calculator, and it does that quite well. ConverTable Units' main purpose is to provide and teach unit conversions, and we think it does that quite well!

Not able to enter numerical data from keyboard. For example, entering 1 results in 11; 2 results in 22, and 4 results in 44, and so on.

The double-number bug reported by FrankS, which affected the calculator module in version 2.4, has been fixed.
