This looks like LAST January's update, not THIS January's. All the documentation, file dates and so on indicate January 7 2005. I'm sticking with what I have until this gets sorted out.
Yet another confusing update posted by ATI.To make matters worse, I am unable to download this ROM update because the link informs me that my session has timed out... this is after viewing this update for about 5 seconds..
God, how do these companies ever survive.. You might imagine that a company the size of ATI would by now be able to post a simple update for Mac users to download easily.
The ATI site is nothing short of a nightmare of ever decreasing circles that take you nowhere.
I am a confirmed ATI card user, but they really do need to present themselves in a better fashion to those of us who use the net and ATI products.
This software was posted in error, it is indeed last years' software.
Very sorry for the confusion.

IN THE FUTURE THE APPLICABILITY REQUIREMENTS DESCRIPTION FOR THESE UPDATES SHOULD CLEARLY DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN ATI GRAPHICS CARDS FOR THE MAC AND APPLE-INSTALLED OEM ATI GRAPHICS CHIPS!

No need to yell. Your request is unreasonable. Why label these at all? All Apple OEM graphics/driver updates come from Apple. All Retail patches come from the manufacturer. That is why it is so funny to hear people ask about their powerbooks. SInce when can you buy a retail card for a PB?
We see this year after year, but Apple considers the graphics drivers part of the core OS, so they always update OEM cards this way. Now you know.

Is this update for my ATI RADEON 9700 Mobility in my Powerbook?
The AGP listed at the bottom confuses me.

no this is for retail cards not OEM, for OEM card then see Apple for updates.
This relates to the August 2005 ROM Update !!! - I've noticed there are reviews in this thread that are for an older release?
---------------------
Note that this requires 10.3.6 or higher! READ those release notes.

Ran flawlessly on this DP 450MHz PowerMac with the Radeon 8500 card running Panther 10.3.9. Repaired permissions prior to install. The software REQUIRES you, THE USER, to reboot IMEDIATELY following installation, so don't forget to perform that vital final step.
You will note the pinwheel BSD portion of the boot after the first restart will take two or more times longer than usual - DON'T PANIC - give it time to finish.
Good job, ATI.

I have a Radeon 9000 card and this installation went fine. I had to reboot twice after installation, though. After the 1st reboot I got the grey screen with white type telling me that I had to reboot (again). Second boot went fine and everything is fine.

For all of you who rush into these updaters (like me), please note this from ATI's website:
"OSX 10.4.x Tiger: Safe Boot is required to use this ROM Update. Hold shift during boot to Safe Boot. Please read the release notes for instructions."

Note: ATI's website says that this update is for "Mac OS X version 10.2.8 only"...emphasis on ONLY...

The AGP listed at the bottom confuses me.
Read this: https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894
to do ROM update, safe-boot is required.
As always, read the Read Me before using it.
cheers.
