Is anyone else having difficulty downloading this AW updater for OS 9.2 from Apple's site?

When I click the radio button "AppleWorks for 6.2.8 for Mac OS 8.1-9.x," it downloads the file AppleWorks6.2.9Updater.smi. When I then attempt to upgrade, I get the following message: "Unable to execute AppleWorks6.2.9Updater.smi. You do not have the appropriate privileges to use this file. (-54)." I have no idea what this means.

I almost suspect that the site is downloading the OS X version to me in error. If so, how do I get the version for OS 9.2? It's most frustrating.

I also went to the Apple upgrade page and tried to download 6.2.8 and had the same problem. I went to another place and tried to download it and it sent me back to Apple. Does anyone know how to get 6.2.8????

I'm sure you've fixed your problem by now, but in case anyone else has the same issue, it can be caused by having an extension disabled. Try opening the Extensions Manager and select Mac OS 9.X.X, then restart and try again.

PS: It's so nice to be able to offer a comment without having to create a stupid user account. Thanks for being sane, MacUpdate!

I also tried downloading 6.2.8 and get 6.2.9. It works all the way until the license agreement screen. Then I get a message saying "an installation of US Appleworks 6 could not be found so cannot upgrade"!!! Well, I have Appleworks 6.0.4, so I have no idea what this means. Does anyone know. I really need help. Thank you. P.S. What is "US" Appleworks?????

I had the same problem until I disabled the multiple users control panel.

Go to Control Panels, then Multiple Users, and select the 'off' button. Then restart your computer.

With this update, AW6 flies. It seems to be way faster than before - about as smooth as Clarisworks4. If you have AW6, you NEED this upgrade.

while trying to install i continually get error stop telling me that Excel 97 is having some sort of problem loading. I already have Excel 98 in my hard drive. Is this a conflict that i can get around. I would like to use Appleworks 6 to read Microsoft Word files.
