After reviewing the Myriad software demos and offering, I opted for the more featured Harmony Assistant.
Works on Lion 10.7.3

The good: Nice, fun notation/midi app. The plus is the wide range of supported formats and the extensible scripting architecture. In particular, Harmony Assistant can properly put lyrics in midi file (for example karaoke .kar, rich midi and standard midi files) which can not be done by either Sibelius or Finale. The Virtual Singer add-on is also an interesting computer sing-along singer.
The bad: Some edges could be improved like the support for chord diagrams on the import/export within MusicXML 2.0.
The ugly: The UI could really use some visual polish. Switching out the icon set (as provided by the UI) did improve the look.
Overall, I use Finale as a primary tool and Harmony as a nice adjunct for things that Final (and Sibelius) can not do.

Despite being much smaller company than the Finale / Sibelius folks, this has maintained competitiveness in many areas. This program does certain quirky things, including support for all sorts of world instruments, microtonality, a virtual-singer program... this is very flexible and well-designed software that is just a bit outdated in terms of GUI. At any rate, for the price it deserves strong consideration. This isn't some simple software for beginners, this is fully capable, professional software that can do very many things, and some are things no other program yet can do.

They added the ability to resize the toolbars! They were tiny before and that was what made it seem outdated to some degree. That is a major improvement! I recommend this over all other notation programs for anyone not doing professional level work. I also recommend professionals use this, and for some it might be all they need while others may also use other programs at times.

The worst thing is that their kagi link for the U.S. does not work. I took a chance and purchased it through the European portal. Haven't received my registration code yet, so I'm crossing my fingers.
