When I was using Windows, I got sick of Internet Explorer and wanted to try out a new browser. Netscape constantly crashed on me and slowed down other applications. With Firefox, I felt like there were not enough possibilities. But Opera answered all my requests, and I love it. When I switched to Mac, I thought that Safari will be just as good, but unfortunately it wasn't.

Opera is fast, reliable, and has a very nice user-friendly interface. "Thanks to" Opera I cannot use any other browser. Another plus is that Opera enables "mouse gestures".

However, two main problems that I have encountered are:

- Opera and Gmail do not really like each other
- Opera displays some pages incorrectly, but that is not because flaws in Opera, but because the designers of the web pages do not follo W3C standards.

Overall, I recommend Opera to everyone, and I still can't understand why it is not the most popular browser!

You know those Java sights that don, t work on a Mac, With opera I managed to get some sights to function at an acceptable level where all other browsers can,t even touch. One sight was http://rahyab.cityof Tehran.Com (zoomable map). I give the link for investigation my review for yourself, I am not promoting the sight. Hint "when clicking on map and finished loading, cycle the zoom tool for image to appear.

I've been looking around for a good web browser. So far I've really enjoyed this one the best. I'm still using OS 9.2.2, and with only a 56k modem, this beats all of them!!! I've had no problems using this for almost everything! Good job!

I really, really wanted to switch to Opera as my primary browser. On certain sites it's a screamer, but other sites that load fine in Netscape 4.08 will not load at all in Opera. It says they are done, but all I get is a white background. Also, why does Opera insist on making all the type larger than what usually shows in other browsers?

OK so no Mac browser is perfect but Opera 5.0 is the best, and her's why.......

MSIE 5

No 1 in the charts, but why? Bad HTML display, refuses to load many sites, uses system resources even when not running (including 5.1.x) and crashes itself and the excellent Workstrip-begone Satan!

Netscape/Mozilla 6,7

Huuuuuuuggggeeee, bloated monster-i thought M$ were supposed to do that! Still, stable and reliable but very, very RAM hungry.....and it looks like a Windoze program. Keep your lousy ports thanks.

iCab

Very user friendly but hideously unstable even when given 24Mb RAM to play with.So much for low system requirements.Doesn't work with many secure sites either.

Which leaves us with Opera, excellent flexible memory management (absolutely NO crashes),small size, decent rendering, superb search system and fast-what more do you need? So the interface is a little strange but stick with it,it really is an excellent browser!

"Alternative"? OK. "Fast"? NO!!! It's slower than anything I've tried so far. It WAS fast half a year ago on MacOS 9, but on X, it's a snail. Besides, you can't expand your window to a max; the bookmarks aren't at hand... Wrong way!

OK, I thought Mozilla 0.9.6 was good, then it started crashing on my G3 B&W. 56K dial-up. To be honest, I don't know if the fault was Remote Access, Open Transport, Mozilla or Netscape 6.2 but I was have DAILY crashes! (Funny thing is that both browsers are stable on my office beige G3 with network internet connection.)

So...Opera finally comes out with a Mac version so I thought, what the heck...
And you know what? I love it! I've been using it for 12 days and only had one crash (probably due to opening another program before Opera had finished launching.)

I use Eudora, so the lack of a mail program isn't a downside for me. And Opera is lean & mean ...about a 2 MB download! BIG PLUS: I like having my passwords connected to my Mac Keychain! (Why don't the others browsers do this? Eudora uses that feature and I love it.) I don't like the bookmark system quite as much as Netscape (it's a little more finicky) but the features are all there.

You can get the browser free if you go the "ad route", which isn't my thing. But I'm have to pay their reasonable price for the stability and features.
