Condense

Sad to see this app is "dead and gone," as others have noted. WARNING, WILL ROBINSON: The developer URL redirects to a web site that tries to install a browser plugin under the guise of a security update. The link should probably be removed.

Looks like this wonderful app is dead and gone: no more website, can't find it at the App Store... :-(

Condense is so helpful! Dear developers, please update Condense at least for Mojave.

BEST EVER!! I use this ALL of the time. Nothing more to say. Best $ ever spent. Like Aargl, I tried out all similar apps... This won hands down. I often use it to copy text from pdfs, especially when using Preview's cut and copy doesn't work so well. Use it on scans, etc.

Only after purchasing it did I learn that this will only use OCR to convert one page to a searchable form - to do more that that you'd need to upgrade to the Enterprise Edition. In the 1-line subheading it does say that it's for medium-sized texts, but one page is not medium-sized, it's small. Since this is false advertising, I'm only able to give it 2 stars.

I've tried ABBYY Pro and Express, Readiris and Condense. First the price: ABBYY Pro: 120$ ABBYY Express: 100$ Readiris: 100$ Condense: 5$ The ABBYYs are far better than Readiris but I found situations in which Condense was better than them all! And it's so easy to use that I wonder why the others are still selling... ;-) Amazing situation in which the best app by far is the cheapest one! :-o

Love this, it's brilliant, simple quick, accurate, helpful.

When I read David Sparks' blog post "CONDENSE, OCR ON THE FLY," I immediately purchased Condense for my wife, a writer who uses OCR a lot in her work.

What I didn't realize was how handy Condense would be for me. I can't count the number of times I've tried to copy some text from a Web page or an application window or message, only to discover that it's not selectable text or that Edit > Copy does nothing. With Condense, I can grab anything that looks like text:

1. Click the Condense > Scan hot key.
2. Snap a rectangle around the desired text.
3. Review the OCR-ed text in Condense's popup window.
4. Click the checkmark to copy it to the clipboard and dismiss the review window.

Voila, instant text I can paste wherever I want!

This is one of the applications I can’t live without. Since I bought it a few months ago I keep asking myself why no one else on earth had ever thought before of such an ingenious way of extracting texts from protected sources. I often read ebooks on my computer. Every time I need to copy and save my favorite phrases I face the infamous DRM protection that gets in my way. Well, one way is to use special applications that remove definitely this sort of protection and possibly infringe the copyright laws of your country. A better way is to use Condense to copy elegantly the image of the texts you need, extract the text within it with just a click and then paste it to your liking. All this procedure takes a few seconds and is absolutely as easy and intuitive as a simple “copy & paste”. Kudos to the developer for having saved me a lot of time and headache.
