THIS IS AN IMPORTANT CORRECTION!
The "NS 6.2 CD & Book" that I bought and my review is about, is
"NS 6.2.2".
However, my review stands: It IS not 1/4 as good as "NS 4.79"!!
DO NOT BUY, NOR USE IT.
I had used 4.5 and 4.79 for the previous three years.
I bought 6.2 {The CD and The 344 page book, that came with the CD} via
U.S.Mail, 6 weeks ago.
I installed it {not easy} and attempted to use it for 17 days. I am a
"User's Guide" Reader. I read all User's Guides to learn the Software before using it. I read the 6.2 book twice.
I attempted to use 6.2 for 17 days.
IT IS A BIG MESS!
DO NOT BUY 6.2!
It is slow, cumbersome, and complicated beyond reason!
I am now using "NS 4.79" again!
And, I am trying to get my money back by returning the "NS 6.2" CD &
its 344 Page Book!
My computer is the "Dual 800MHz. G4, with 1.5 GB RAM.
"NS 4.79" beats the pants off of 6.2!!
Sincerely,

Frank Carmen Ph.D.: I read your review and tend to agree so far. I'm running Mac OS 9.2 and N'scpe 6.2. The bookmarks manager program is extremely unstable and will not submit to many changes. Somewhere in the loins of the beast is a limit of 80 bookmark folders (so the Unofficial FAQ Forum advises). The thing just freezes when you have too many - and it doesn't ever say why.
There is also somewhere a file which replaces the IE Favorite folder and contents, 3 subfolders and 20 or so URLs for Microsoft and IE sites.I have deleted the contents, the folders , in combinations, in succession, etc. they are replaces on reboot.I can't find the file in th eN scape folder or the system prefs to discard it - and make room for some different folders I need.
Even clicking the mouse too fast will freeze the bookmarks manager and the cpu.
Too many bells and whistles!

Why would someone with a Dual 800 use OS 9 or anything classic instead of OS X? It's a din0saur, albeit a loveable one. Even so, it's equivalent to Win95 technology. Goodness..a dual 800 and os 9...wow. Even my G4 400 loves OSX and it's now a G4 1.2 after upgrade.
Why a broswer with so many functions, I just want to surf but if you want a smooth broswer that isn't buggy like Opera and isn't crappy like IE, then Netscape is the best.
I'm sorry to say that Netscape hasn't lived up to it's name in this newest realease. It uses up far more memory than any self-respecting browser should, and it feels suspiciously like a Windows app. Sorry, try again Netscape.

In a few words, iCab leaves Netscape 6.2.2 choking in
its' dust. Very disappointing to see Netscape offering
a pseudo Mac application probably better suited to
the Windows OS plaform.

This version appear MUCH more stable in the few hours I have run it. By comparison, 6.2.1 would have crashed twice!!!
It is still a memory hog, and many sites dont support it (I keep 4.77 as a backup) but it has far better features than IE.

The best that the public can hope for is that the programming team for netscape commits group suicide this browser is a deadend an absolute dead dog, pretty bad when you have to say that IE has it beat hands down

I am not a web designer and only use the internet for research. In addition, I am no fan of Microsoft or any other predatory monopoly. Nevertheless, I use Opera or IE because they both seem to work so much better than Netscape 6.x. I originally used Mosaic and early versions of Netscape and was very happy with their performance. Unfortunately, once AOhell took over Netscape it was all down hill from there (they did the same thing to CNN). The browser in its current configuration is worthless in comparison to they other products that are available. Please do not support mediocrity.
