Do you use the Spotlight menu as an application launcher? If so then you've probably been frustrated by Spotlight's inability to include the Finder in its results.

Finder Activator solves this problem. Once installed you can finally launch & activate the Finder via the Spotlight menu!

The Finder is usually running. Wy would I need to launch it? If for some reason it is not, it's in the Dock. One click is all you need to launch it.

If you are one of these people that don't use the Dock, well this software is an indication on how you are over complicating things!

I assume this software is for people who want to keyboard their way there; i.e. "Command-Space, F-I-N-return". Never had a need to myself, but I can see its purpose.

"Do you use the Spotlight menu as an application launcher?"

As a fallback for LaunchBar or other third party app launcher.

"If so then you've probably been frustrated by Spotlight's inability to include the Finder in its results."

Nope, never, not even once.

How common is it to manually launch Finder, especially without Dock running to easily do it? And with Finder running, isn't Command-Space app switching to it more convenient than using Spotlight?

This might be the most narrow-niched app I've ever seen on MU.

Hello sjk, if you call it "narrow-niched" then you may be missing something, and you should consider that, maybe you are narrow-minded and can't see the usage?

@Setsupper, no sjk is absolutely correct. I've been using Macs since 1994, and I can't see a use for this. But then I hardly ever use the Spotlight Menu as an application launcher, because I use LaunchBar and DragThing as well.

Spotlight is actually fairly awful for most tasks. I can type in the *exact name* for a file I know I have, and it won't find it. I use HoudahSpot instead.

If this product is aimed at power users, i.e., people who use use the keyboard a lot—and I'm one of them—then those same users will likely be using LaunchBar or one of the other launchers. Maybe even Launchpad. Who knows? But not Spotlight.

And as I pointed out, when do you ever need to launch the Finder? You don't. It's the first application running when you start up your Mac.

I can switch to the Finder using the keyboard, or my trackpad. If the Finder crashed and didn't relaunch itself, I can click on the Dock's icon. Even power users have to use the mouse (or in my case Magic Trackpad) sometimes.

At least it's free, but I just don't see much use in the product, and I'm not narrow minded.

So why the ad hominem attack? Are you the developer?

Tell me what I'm missing, Setsupper? Got any specific examples of when you would, or anyone else might, use this?

The number of users needing to manually start Finder (which stubbornly prefers to auto-start and remain running), for whatever reasons, is very small compared to total users. Even fewer would require Spotlight to do it. And surely not many are wanting/needing to use Spotlight for switching to Finder. That's why I said this a narrow-niched app; it will only have value for hardly anyone.

Thanks for the followup, David.
