Why you need DesktopTidy:

You could probably remove most of them. But from time to time, there is some useful file on your desktop, which you want to keep.

I still use this regularly on Sierra as of April 2017 and it works great. I don't want to spend valuable time fiddling with Apple scripts, so this is perfect. Does the job!

I have a very bad habit of leaving Folders and Files scattered about on my Desktop for the various projects i am working on. And in no time the desktop is a mess plus i notice that the startup time seems to take longer when there are more files/folders on the desktop. DesktopTidy can move files and folders off the desktop to one folder i specify. Now i have a clean desktop every day but the files are never lost. I can get them back anytime and also decide which to keep and which to trashed. I also complement the developer for his prompt immediate attention to any problems or difficulties i had with his programme. I certainly highly recommend this programme.

Thanks to MacUpdate i realized version 2.5.1 was available. Going to the apple menu drop down menu for previous installed version (2.5.0) you realize that you can't really tell what version is installed and so updating is huge hassle because for some reason it does not self check.
Perhaps the developer can fix that soooon!

This is basically a wrapper for a simple AppleScript:
set date_string to date string of (current date)
set folder_name to ("DaDesktop " & date_string)
tell application "Finder"
set target_folder to make new folder at home with properties {name:folder_name}
move every file of desktop to target_folder
end tell
That said, it does what it says on the tin.

Opening up the Desktop Tidy "folder" is a cumbersome. Why can't there be a drop down item from the Apple Menu icon for Desktop Tidy to take me directly to the folder for those times i want to see what's there and don't want to restore my desktop.. My work around has been to place an alias on the desktop which seems to defeat the reason for having this app.

I'm confused. I have an application that I love called Desktop Tidy, from Light Pillar Apps. Version 1.0. This application, DeskTopTidy seems to do the same thing, but behaves differently and is from AlphaSoft. They will run concurrently. Are they the same application? I much prefer the older one, since it runs as a menubar item instead of a dock item. And it has more preferences. Please clarify.

Nice idea but really needs to offer more control as opposed to a complete sweep of the Desktop.
I did not stick with it long enough to give a fair review so my only other comment is with respect to the ugly nag screen upon quitting. To place a "Donation Ware" pop-up that attempts to require clicking it to dismiss it in order to quit the app completely discourages me from any further use of the app.
Make it clear up-front that you encourage donations to reward you for your work and time.
