ABBYY's dictionary consists mostly of RUSSIAN => some language resp. some lang => RUSSIAN. Once you remove the Russian stuff this dictionary looks a lot less impressive. It's not that is bad or anything, just keep in mind that it's heavily focused on russian.

I'm sorry, but where can I download the 1.6 version if I hold a valid serial key (purchased Lingvo from ABBYY's web store)? The link they gave me in the email only points to 1.0.3. :(

Where is the ABBYY Lingvo's guy who has repelled me at the Macupdate Promo? I would like to enter in contact with them. I sent an e-mail to them, but I didn't receive the answer.

Hi ABBYY,

Any news about the discount of the app via Mac App Store? At Macupdate Promo, you told you would drop the hint in the middle of the month, do you remember?

Because that promo has already expired and I couldn't buy, because I have already bought an Apple gift card before buying your software. I still keep the money on my Mac App Store account. I would like to buy this app with the discount. I'm anxious and want so this app with a special discount via Mac App Store. I love studying foreign languages.

Gustavo, as it was promised you can buy Lingvo dictionary in MAS with 50% discount right now.
Thank you for the waiting and interest in Lingvo!!

@ ABBYY
I really miss a trial version, so I have to ask some questions:
1.
Is there something like a "learning-function" for one's own vocabulary book?
What I'm looking for is, that the words I had to look up (or the words I'm marking) will go into an extra file or so, where I can repeat those words (maybe even with the ability to hide the one language that I want to learn)?
Is a feature like that included or are you planning to do so?
OR can I at least easily copy those "difficult" words into the Mac Apps "Pages" or "Numbers" to build my own vocabulary book?

2.
In your description it says:
"Listen to pronunciation of KEY WORDS"
How many words of one language do you _exactly_ consider as "Key Words"??? I would need to hear especially the *less common* words.

Of course I could hear those words always at
www.dict.cc
which is a really great project btw - and people from all over the world are invited to improve it and record words in their native language.
But: you have to be online for that.

3. Can I only install the languages I'm interested in, to reduce the needed space on the Mac?

Thanks in advance for answering :)

and 4. question ;-)
Do the pop-up translations also work in a browser (like Safari / Firefox) ?

Think Globally,
1. We are planning to add learning features in one of the following Lingvo releases. Now creation of one's own vocabulary book is not available. Of course you can copy and paste words for learning into the Mac apps.
2. 15 000 words are recorded by native speakers for English, 10,000 words for Spanish, 10,000 words for German, 5,000 words for French, 20,000 words for Russian.
3. Unfortunately installation of certain languages isn't realized so far.
4. Pop up translation works for Cocoa applications (for example Safari, not Firefox).

Hi folks!

Sometimes it´s better to read the specifications before buying a piece of software ;)

So, my question: Is there a version for 10.4 Tiger available?

Thanks in advance!

The app looks interesting, and I understand from your replies that it's compatible with OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). Since the name is LINGVO (Esperanto for 'language'), I wonder if there will be add-ins for the dictionaries, including -perhaps- Esperanto?

Hi John,
Thank you for the interest. You are right, Lingvo is compatible with Snow Leopard.
Unfortuntely add-ins for other languages (including Esperanto) are not available in the version. You are quite right for lingvo = language in Esperanto, by this name we mean that the app is intending to help people connect and understand each other, "speak the same language".

Good app and great dictionaries!

Do you plan to add some search instruments (like in Win version)?

And I'm missing Tutor so much...

Hi Ogonic,
Thank you a lot for the positive feedback and interest in the app. We are permanently working on Lingvo improving so in the next versions we will try to realise more perfect search and learning instruments!

Sad when there is no trial. No trial, no buy for me. Especially when the price is $60.

And what about the non-MAS-customers? Will we get this update from ver. 1.0.2 (1307) also?

Widber, unfortunately there is no way to get this update because 1.6 isn't the update for 1.0.2, it's another version with different language set (SpanishEnglish, FrenchEnglish, GermanEnglish and ItalianEnglish Oxford dictionaries are added).
