I'm not sure this is going to be a "popular" review. Here we go:

It's clear the developers have lavished lots of love care and attention on this app, but it feels like they need more focus on the task at hand. It's an expensive annotation app. That's fine, I don't mind spending money on software at all... but the features almost do it, but not quite. The Loupe feature is awesome. That's all.

Sorry hipsters, this is a "could have been great" app at this stage.

A little quirky but easy to use and for what I use it for (mostly eBook production) it works quite well. I think future updates will solve any issues I might have, but I hope they keep it simple. The price is close to what I paid for Business Card Composer, which is also a bit of a niche market but very functional and easy to use app. A reasonable price, but at this price, a demo would be useful; I bought based on the rep of the developer (excellent).

Thanks for that!

The lack of demos make reviews like this important again… Back in the '80 and '90 we had to rely on reviews/articles in magazines, because there were no demo versions (and software cost much more anyway). Anyway, I don't wanna go back there so I don't buy software without demo…

Who would drop $40 based on a few screenshots on the app store? Honestly. No Demo, no way! The website has zero information about who this company is or why I should give them my money.

It looks intriguing, but it's not worth the risk without a demo.

While I understand and kind of share your concerns you could have posted them as a comment instead of giving the app -- which you obviously haven't even tried -- such a bad rating…!? Doesn't really seem fair, that's all…

I agree with you. It doesn't deserve the negative rating. I don't think it's possible to change it to a comment or I would. Thanks for your input.

Both of you guys are completely right (minus the half star review) :-)

FWIW I share Mar6473's sentiments (and curiousity). Especially since it has first place in Mac App Store's "New and Noteworthy" section as well as being Apple's Editor's Choice.

DEVELOPER: I'm really keen to know/see more before considering a purchase... Please take a day or so to make some proper screencasts. I think this can be a business blocker otherwise.

FWIW, saw the app on the APP Store; tried to learn more about it. Check dev's website, but, as Mar6473 mentioned, not much there. I emailed the dev about the possibility of a trial, mentioning that I (and my peers) are unlikely to drop $40 on such an app without a trial to see how it fits into current workflows etc. Dev responded within a day, apologizing for not having a trial. I responded, consider making one avail, with an expiring serial (a la Curio) or something ... haven't heard back. I recommend anyone interested in this app email the dev through their support page about a trial -- maybe, if enough folks demand it, they come up with one. As is, based on the description alone, this is one might expensive app for what it does -- the feature set better be mighty rich to justify the cost.
