Tomahawk overview

Tomahawk is a music player that fundamentally changes the way music is consumed and shared.

It decouples the name of the song from the source it was shared from - and fulfills the request using all of your available sources.

This creates a universal translation layer across music repositories, streaming services and geographic territories.

Ha HA!! LOL! So many reviews of this on the web proclaiming Tomahawk is the BEST alternative to iTunes! I wanted to believe it. But among other LIMITATIONS:

• Cannot import playlists from iTunes
• CANNOT select all tracks with Command-A (dumb move)
• LOL, you cannot drag/drop tracks onto a playlist (dumbest move)
• NO equalizer? Everything sounds like crap! LOL! (dumber move)

And this is an iTunes alternative? I'm not a fan of iTunes either, but at least TRY to make this app better… LOL!

My AV agent, Sophos, reported that the installer for this app has a file that needed to be quarantined. Just sayin'.

I'm basically confused by the interface. It will load up album art and band art in a neat way from my iTunes library or perhaps online as well, but I don't see any way to do it unless I open or view music and then it loads them one at a time instead of doing it all in the background. The contextual menu items are very sparse. Also, for the life of me I can't find an equalizer which is a deal breaker and there are no tooltips when you float your mouse over buttons, etc. to figure out what things do unless you click on them and even thin it's not always clear what's going on. There doesn't seem to be a way to import my iTunes playlists, so that's a no-go because there's no way I want to spend all that time recreating them. Unlike iTunes, there appears to be only one way to display my collection of music. If I click on composer, album, etc. nothing happens. It may work some other non-intuitive way, but that's just another strike against the user interface either way. I realize this is still in beta, so hopefully this is simply a work in progress, but it seems to me it should still be an internal alpha at this stage. Since it's only in beta, I'm not going to review it and just leave this commentary. But otherwise I would only give it about two stars. I love the premise of this app and hope it continues to be developed, but at this stage, I think it's only practical for most people to help them test it.
