This app is another one from the group that includes Aimersoft and iSkysoft. I actually own Aimersoft's "Aimersoft Video Converter" and iSkysoft's "iSkysoft iTube Studio" and have found them both to be excellent apps. Notably, the iTube Studio app is frequently updated to support users who need to contend with YouTube's constantly changing API's. I think this company (conglomerate?) suffers from being Chinese and having no knowledge of western marketing practices whatsoever. Additionally, there are a variety of unscrupulous companies operating in this space, one of which is the infamous "XMac..." video utility vendor--they make software that simply does nothing at all. No harm. No malware. No spam. They just take your money and you get a program with a nice icon that doesn't do anything. They even made it onto MacUpdate before being discovered and pulled by Micah and crew.

Anyway, always be careful but these folks have acquired a reputation in some quarters that does not reflect the good quality of their products. Perhaps they will hire a westerner to sort things out and improve their reputation.

Works 100%. Worth every penny I paid. Extremely fast with no glitch. Had a video file converted and burn in 70 mins. Love the fast encoding.

@Smtips,

Very informative article. Thanks for sharing. I recommend everyone who doesn't know about such practices check it out; it isn't terribly long.

Seems to work, to some extent. The correct question to ask yourself : Is this offering some features set that is not available in other comparable converting apps?
Answer: no. In fact it comes short in many encoding needs.

And the price: Yes, it is way to expensive for a feature-less converter. Absolutely no bargain! Unless you have too much money to spend.

I can highly recommend using Handbrake. A free alternative that works 100%

Spamm or not, the application works without any issue.

Finally, the user decided to get it or not, not Macworld or someone else.

Download the demo and see how it works.

I'm sure the other tools are also good. The vary of apps and the quality is important. Someone like this, another one likes that.

What did you all smoke? Try the software, if it works and the price is good, get it.

I tried it and i can say it works very good.

I had problems converting Apple's mov files. I tested iffmpeg before. It could not convert the files.

But Video Converter Ultimate got them all converted.

The tool is a little overpriced, but the tool is very well organized and works very good.

Are you stupid? There's any number of apps that cost way less and do a better job than this app that is named any number of names and is just a ripoff. I don't believe you when you say it's worth the money. In one line you said the price is good, the next you say "a little overpriced." It's not worth the money and you're a fool and a liar.

I am a registered user of Video Converter Ultimate. Video Converter Ultimate (which also converts video to audio) has successfully completed every task I have thrown at it and I have no complaints whatsoever about this software.

Says the person copy/pasting the same comment and link on all of this developer's listings on MacUpdate. Irony?

Espiridion

And how is posting that information spamming?
Wondershare are known spammers. I've reported their spam plenty of times in the past, after encountering it directly, in various forums, day after day after day.
Is this a sign of Macupdate's lowering its standards as has been mentioned regarding MacKeeper?
Feel free to delete my post if you consider that more appropriate. Let's just ignore the reputation of companies like MacKeeper and Wondershare here at Macupdate.

Read the update at the bottom of that story regarding Wondershare.

Wondershare is the original developer of the titles that other companies like Xilisoft and iSkysoft license and re-brand themselves. That's why we list Wondershare's apps and not those other companies.

As the Macworld update mentions, Wondershare doesn't spam any more and what "spam" you can find (that's not even the right term, spam is unsolicited email -- but anyway) is not from Wondershare but via affiliates (arbitrage).

@ Espiridion: Two years ago I would have agreed with you. There was a whole passel of outfits offering what amounted to the same programs with different names.

However, a year ago I had need for a converter and tried the Wondershare version, and found it to fill my requirements exactly, so I purchased it. Over time I had questions and found that their support team to be courteous and knowledgeable about the product. At one point they gave me a discount coupon good for any of their products after I asked about a particular app.

I have found that Wondershare had products that work exactly as specified and their support is tops. What more could one ask? As Misha below explains, Wondershare is legit. They are certainly not spammers.

And who should be responsible for the resellers' behavior? Plenty of companies have resellers and don't resort to spam.
The updated article does not say that Wondershare stopped spamming:
"...despite Wondershare's official anti-spam policy, there is still some Wondershare spam being posted on forums, including our own..."

And it starts with the acknowledgement that they did spam in the past:
"Representatives of Wondershare contacted us to say that while it might have spammed in the past..."

Even if there was zero spam from Wondershare today, they would still be a company that resorted to spamming forums for a very long time. I personally encountered and reported plenty of their spam to various forum administrators, just as I reported Onde's fake reviews here at Macupdate (and those were deleted).
I will never buy software from them, or Aiseesoft, or any of the different brand names used by these spammers.

@Prince_Isaac,
Even if Wondershare makes the best products and offers the best support (which I doubt), I will never make a purchase from spammers. Your standards may vary.

@ Esperidion: Thanks for your thoughts, which I totally respect. Actually I happen to think that we as humans are free to change our minds about one thing or another over time as new information becomes available. Two years ago I was just as PO's as you are and thought I'd never buy something from any of those outfits. A project came up and I tried a product. Based on what it did *for me at that point in time*, I can say that it was worth changing my mind.

In 1975 when the last of a long line of American-built cars I'd owned bit the dust after only 18 months, I decided to never buy GM, Ford, or Chrysler again. Since then I've been quite happy with several Toyota models, each last more than ten years. However, I'm now considering a Volt to replace my 14-yo RAV4. Times have changed. Incidentally, the MW article you refer to is nearly two years old with an update about 18 months ago. I'd be curious what Chris Breen would say today.

Hilarious to see MU representatives keep support Wondershare.

spam is unsolicited email says Misha ... what a joke. You clearly don't run your own forum otherwise you would know what spam is.

No no Wonderhare no longers spams, no sire certainly not

I am a little bit late to this party, so I did not get a chance to read Chris Breen's expose on the slimy marketing practices to which Chinese companies are resorting as a standard way of doing business. However, I am quite amused to see Chris Breen's confirmation of my own suspicions on such an consumer-insulting practice, which I wrote about in a recent commentary on the Flip PDF Professional product, which seems to one of the companies involved in the trend to get the world to spend a lot of money on the newest gimmick of turning PDF files in page-flipping Flash or animated HTML5 pages.

Something doesn't smell right, I wrote, when discovering a rash of similarly designed, unimaginative web sites all promoting what appears to be the same products sold at essentially the same prices on a variety of different names. Chris Breen detected that same smell two years ago and told us to hold our noses against the stink. I happen to agree with him on this issue.

The entrepreneurial spirit of the Chinese may have been suppressed for decades under the rigors imposed by communism, but now that the lid has been loosened, they have no hesitation in painting a whole new face on the ugly, monopolistic practices which mark the extreme implementation of capitalism.

Watch and learn people! These practices won't be limited merely to selling software. This is a cultural invasion that is highly amusing and likely to be defended by those who rationalize buying such products simply because they fill the immediate need which bothered them at the time.

Come to think of it, their brand of doing business is no different that the way our own politicians think. These days, it doesn't matter what party your elected representative claims to serve. The real puppet master who pulls his strings is the guy with the money that supports his campaign to buy influence in Congress. So silly!
