iShell is the most effective way to develop cross-platform interactive CD-ROM's. iShell's object-oriented authoring environment is a powerful visual programming solution to develop and deploy multimedia applications without wasting creative energy climbing the usual learning curve. iShell applications can also be deployed through kiosks or over the Internet.

Probably the best with the help of the all tribeworks community. I create CD-Rom since 1990 Member of this community since 1999, and I hardly recommend this product to every one including beginners.

If you are having problems with the installer you probably forgot to read the release notes. I assume you did not uninstall the older version of iShell you already had installed on your computer. If you still have problems contact Tribeworks and I am sure they will help you get up and running.

This software is great, you really should make the effort to get the demo working I think you will change your mind about iShell if you do.

I've used iShell since version 1 when mTropolis died (cursed be the name of Quark!) and every new version has been a light year's progress. Version 4 is XML compliant, totally cross-platform in development as well as distribution, and has a 1-click "Publish" (Wrap and Burn). It's as flexible as Director, plays Flash (and just about every other format, and runs on the Internet as well as disk media. I've used it to pblish professional titles and to teach multimedia authoring to secondary and tertiary students. It is the Photoshop of multimedia.
And did I mention the suport? Its users on the iscussion lists are its greatest resource.

For years I slaved away with Authorware and Director. Over the past year, however, I've become somewhat of an iShell fanatic. Using iShell, I'm continually amazed by how quickly and easily I can pull together full-featured multimedia titles with great connectivity and interactivity. And now with version 3.0s timeline, I can also add cool animation effects as well. Sure it's not for everyone - 3D and browser plug-ins are not directly available (though there are ways around this as well), and the price is a little high (though I've seen at least one special promotion over the past year). All-in-all, when you get iShell and you've got a fantastic, easy-to-use, full-featured and robust authoring environment supported by some of the most helpful folks you'll ever find. You can't go wrong.

iShell's great! I've been using it since version 1. Now it's native on OSX WooHoo!

I used to use Director but after hitting enough brick walls, I went looking and found iShell. You can learn it in a weekend with no real programming skills. You author once and deploy on Win/OS9/OSX.

What's really great is their technical support. I once found a bug in their software. I contacted them and they sent me an un-released runtime with the bug fixed within 24 hours. Try getting that from Director.

Thumbs up for the Tribe.

iShell 3 is GREAT!!!
True Native OS X support.

A lot of people tend to compare it to Director, but Director's workflow is awkward, complicated and it's metaphor (casts,
etc) is nowhere intelligent.

When your living depends on creating good and reliable products,
believe me, Director is NOT a serious choice (IMHO).

I usually compare Director to a PC. Wintel PCs are obviously worst
machines than Macs, nevertheless they're are 90% of the market. That
doesn't mean PCs a are better than Macs!. Director is to Multimedia
what Wintels are to Personal Computing.

Try iShell!!!

Very fast development and easier to learn than most professional authoring tools. It also seems to be very powerful and expandable. However, deployment is a painful, difficult process the first time. After doing it once, you can repeat the process much more effeciently.
