WikiTab works great in Mavericks in the menubar.I love the convenience of this app.

MacOS X already provides access to Wikipedia directly from the menu bar. Just click the Spotlight menu bar icon an enter the term you're looking for on Wikipedia.

Spotlight would cause some trouble if you're searching a common term such as "JPEG". System built-in Dictionary.app is much more easier to use, especially when you're using System-service enabled applications like TextEdit or Safari.

Alternatively, launcher applications such as QuickSilver, Alfred, Quick Search Box could be programmed to provide similar functions too. My personal favorite is Alfred: just bring up the search box, type "def" and press tab, and type the term you want to search, and you would get what you want.

Spotlight will show you the result for "JPEG" right in the menubar when hovering over "look up" (dictionary result). No need to fire up the Dictionary.app separately.

But yes, you're right, the Wikipedia result for "JPEG" does indeed not show up in the menubar. It's just 1 click away under "web searches" however.

By the way, have you enabled "Wikipedia" as a source in the preferences of Dictionary.app?

Looks like a good idea for quick research if you don't use a MacBook with an already overcrowded menu bar. But since I'm a "rebel" who is still refusing the AppStore I'll have to open Wikipedia now and in the future in a browser window. Poor me. ;)
