Starry Night is a port of a Windows from-scratch (thanks to Evan Green) recreation of a Berkeley Systems After Dark classic module. If you enable "Retro Colors" (e.g. grayscale) and squint a bit, you can pretend your Mac has traveled back in time and become a Mac Classic.

Uses Cocoa drawing calls that should work on any Mac running Mac OS 10.5 or later.

Note that in preview mode, the screensaver doesn't currently take into account the smaller view and draws the same number of buildings that would be drawn in the full screen mode, so this may not be an

Hello,
I downloaded this screensaver for my Mac...10.6.8 OSX and the first time it worked okay. Then I did some adjustments in the Option section of the Preview part of the System Pre. window of the screensavers and from then on it crashes the System Preferences. So I downloaded more and the same. I trashed the old ones but get the same results...crash.

Sorry to hear about the crash, Willchik. I'm not certain what's going wrong. One thing you could try is to delete the preferences file for the screensaver by going to your Library/Preferences/ByHost directory and looking for a com.mindconsoleproductions.screensaver.StarryNight.NNNN file (where the "NNNN" is some series of letters and numbers). You can delete this file (or move it to a different folder) and see if that brings it back to the default options. Do not delete anything else in that directory, however.

Real nostalgia! I used this as my first screensaver on a Classic, back in '93.

Would be nice if it worked on multiple displays. Otherwise, nicely done!

Huh, that's curious. I actually developed it on a two-monitor setup, and it was working properly for me. What sort of configuration do you have? Perhaps I missed something...

What ever happened to AfterDark anyway? I loved their screensavers, especially the one that featured a photo-realistic finger inside your Mac writing text of your choosing onto the steamed-up screen.
Very accomplished graphics for the day.
Last saw that running on my old Umax Mac clone.
I'd pay folding money to have it back.

Wow...this takes me back. Makes me miss my old After Dark — Star Trek: TNG screen saver too. After Dark was the best. Thanks for this...great job!

AWESOME! Made me feel like I had just installed Windows for Workgroups 3.11 off of four hundred 3 1/2" disks onto some crap Gateway 2000 PC and installed this screensaver after a lengthy download via my 9600 baud modem! Oh man, now should I install AOL, Compuserve or Apple's eWorld???

AWESOME!
