LionScrollbars is a small utility that puts control of Mac OS X 10.7's scrollbars back in your hands.
System Preferences in Lion only allows for configuring scrollbars globally. But one setting that applies to all applications does not reflect that for some tasks seeing/not seeing a scrollbar can be crucial (such as always showing a scrollbar for programs where you edit text/code vs. hiding it for web surfing). For those times when you wish you could change the system default for certain applications, now you can! LionScrollbars allows you to configure
What's New
Version 0.5.4:
Added link to online help wiki.
Added appearance tab for installing SIMBL/configuring *experimental* SIMBL plugin for customizing scroller appearance for some apps.
Added filter textfield for quickly finding the app whose settings you want to change.
Added prompt for optionally restarting target app from within LionScrollbars.
I would also like some way to widen the scrollbars. I have Parkinson's and with the tremor I have in my mousing hand, it can be really tough to hit the narrow little space. Thanks!
WOW...Thanks!!! Can't wait to play around with this.
TWO questions, though. (1) ANY chance of getting the scroll arrows worked into this as well??? (2) A quick Google search on SIMBL seems to indicate that SIMBL is not working on Lion. Any chance to another way to access the other screen???
SIMBL actually works on Lion. There _is_ an issue with having it inject into apps (e.g. Finder) at startup, but there is a fix for this, and I believe I included this build in the current release. However, I think I have reached the limits of what SIMBL can do for LionScrollbars, and have been looking into other means of getting proper scrollbar injection working (a la mach_star). At that time you might see scrollbar arrows etc. (they have to be reimplemented because Lion removed this functionality entirely). I also have Chrome/Safari plugins for fixing scrollbars in those browsers that I will probably include in the next release of the software.
updateqc, I hope the folks at Apple get wind of this. I don't use scrollbar arrows, but I know people that really need them. It should be at least be an option in the Universal Access pane.
Nice idea. Any chance of an option to restore the wider scrollbars of Snow Leopard and earlier? I hate these narrow scrollbars and I have lots of desktop space.
Per Application setting is a brilliant idea! I have a feature request. Could Mr. Kaplan create a per application reverse scroll option? I have bitten the bullet and adjusted myself to the natural scrolling in Lion. I have converted my working PC into natural scrolling as well. However, it scrolls old-style while I connect it from Remote Desktop Client from my Lion machine! I need a per-application setting for it to scroll "naturally" thru RDC.
Great idea, but the name of the app is misspelled as "LionScollbars" (missing letter r in Scroll). Great idea and would love to see this as a preference pane.
PrefPane integration is a great idea. That was the original thought, but it required a little more research than I had time for. Should be simple though. I'll add a ticket to the tracker for it.
So why would anyone click the "sad face" icon on either of my postings here? I pointed out a typo to the developer, gave him a suggestion for a direction to go, and pointed out that the app is a great idea. Could that person chime in here and let me know which of these he/she disagreed with? Or was this the work of a troll?
