The prompt support for this app is outstanding. I had trouble getting this to run without having to "force quit" several times. Seems to be okay now however.

Also, does this product have an icon in the dock and need to constantly be running? Or does it live behind the scenes?

Also, the single license version of this software can be had at the App Store for $6.99

Hello,

Cookie Stumbler does have an icon in the dock and no, it doesn't constantly run. The only thing that runs in the background is its agent, which launches Cookie Stumbler in schedule mode once your cleaning schedule needs to be executed.

The App Store version is Cookie Stumbler Basic, which is a "basic" version of Cookie Stumbler Standard. They're not the same. For more info on the differences, click here: http://www.writeitstudios.com/index.php?express=yes

Why does the screnshot show a photo of the product in a foreign language? I'm not against foreign speaking people, but I prefer software designed by people who speak my own language. Otherwise there is often poorly worded documentation that is awkward.

"What's New" for v1.4 ends with:

"MACUPDATE Happy with Cookie Stumbler? Please take a moment and leave us a rating on Mac Update, it really means a lot to us."

I was under the impression that changelogs were for, well, listing out new features. "Please go leave us positive feedback" is not a "feature" of this product and should not be listed as such...

Hello Psychos,

as you may or may not be aware, MacUpdate updates the change log automatically. As soon as we update our "update feed", they just copy and paste the entire change log, regardless if it makes sense or not.

The MACUPDATE part should really only be visible to people updating because for us it's the best way of reminding customers to leave feedback, so you're right, it shouldn't really be there. Thanks for pointing that out.

David-Schiefer,

Actually, the content on our site is edited by humans, including myself. Sorry that we missed the bit at the bottom last time; we make mistakes. I wanted to assure you that the process is not automated.

also... why is CS Family listed as a separate product? :-0

on developer's site there's only one product download and two different license types in the "store section"!

Hi,

this is a result of the MU Promo (2 special discount prices depending on license) and remained this way. There is only one product and two license types, as you correctly point out.

I would suggest using two simple Firefox add-ons instead. Better Privacy and Ghostery seem to cover the core feature of Cookie Stumbler, and both of those add-ons are free.

What's the benefit of using this, when you can use Firefox add-ons like Better Privacy and Ghostery for free?

I work for WriteIt! Studios, please treat this as a response from the developer.

Please see my comments on Ghostery on MUPromo. It is everybodies choice but I personally wouldn't use something that is based on the Advertising Industry policing itself.
On Better Privacy: it is the case as far as I'm aware, that it cleans LSO's once in a while and tries to delete Evercookies. Cookie Stumbler does much more than that. You can always test it for 14 days and delete it if you decide that you don't like it.

Better Privacy can clean LSOs whenever you want it to, not just "once in a while."

Since everyone is so keen on LSO's, just as an info that this is where Adobe Flash stores ActionScripts and other resources. This is can cause issues, because Flash has ignored in the past some basic safety rules. Since Flash (10.3.) if I remember correctly, there is a settings tool in System Preferences where you can fine tune it's behavior. LSOs can therefore be used to spy on people but can be above all a security threat. Cookie Stumbler has a different angle and covers a whole range of issues. It deletes LSO's as well but this is just a side issue and not the purpose of the app.

Blizz had trouble on 13 Apr 2012
Just decided to try this out, in case it would be interesting to purchase. It doesn't manage to get through the cookie detection. After it reads all cookies it starts the "locate & analyze domains" bit of the process. Pretty much at exactly half of the process (according to the progressbar) it just hangs and that's how it stays. I've restarted it but the same result.

Cookie Stumbler eliminates Ad & Tracking cookies and allows you conveniently to maintain only the cookies on your computer which you really want to keep. This eliminates threats to your privacy and helps your web browsers to run faster. It will recognize known Ad/Tracking cookies via definitions which are updated frequently similar to anti-virus software and so far unidentified Ad/tracking cookies via an intelligent heuristics engine, which is built-in. Cookie Stumbler isn't dependent on advertising companies to "allow" users to opt out as some other applications. It does its job independently and it will do so without interfering when you browse the web.

Cookie Stumbler is extremely easy to use. Once you have chosen either one of the default selection criteria such as your bookmarks or history or have put the cookies of some sites which you really want to keep on your 'keep-list', you can run the cleaning process automatically to a schedule which suits your needs. The schedules can be built easily and as customized and flexible as you want them to be. Supporting almost every commonly used browser in the market (currently Safari, Firefox, Chromium, Chrome,Roccat Camino, OmniWeb, Flash) you can use this program either to investigate exactly what websites are storing on your computer or clean it in one click or just let it run without you even remembering to run it. You can even integrate Cookie Stumbler actions into your own workflow by using our Automator Actions. Whatever you chosen workflow might be: Cookie Stumbler will make your Mac more safe and run smoother.
