Can anyone explain, in a nut shell, what this app does above and beyond the built-in text-to-speech capability in OS X, in particular for Snow Leopard? Nothing very informative here in the MU description or at the MAS or developer's page.

For freeware, its just fine and does all that should. As freeware, its one major flaw has noting to do with the application itself. If it's freeware, why not make it ultimately free as in downloadable without having to go through big brother and the appstore.

Very dumb for a smart little utility.

Thanks a million. It's great. Now I can hear all my English spoken with a Thai accent like being in Thailand. Without your intro about setting up voices, I wouldn't have known such a thing was possible. And, thank you for spending your time and brains to provide us Mac users with another FREE app. (Feel sorry for Microsoft people. lol)

I must agree. I will probably never use this because of that restriction, however the developer has an interesting array of software that can be downloaded without the App Store.

Export to mp3 or AAC would be great…

Not bad for free app. What is missing? There is no option to assign different voices to read parts of the text consequently. Just one voice and that's it!

It's a reader... not a drama audio composer. For that, you could take the time to choose a narrative voice, the create different character voices dialogue, then assemble with an audio editor. For freeware, it's pretty nice, but we shouldn't expect it to take on the roles of that which it is not... and maybe shouldn't be.
