I'm really happy with the BD Player for Mac, but I got to admit, that I got it for free in a promotion and I don't play any blu-rays with it. So for what do I use it for? I use it to play all kinds of media and I think it's the best solution (checked VLC, Movist, MPlayer Extended etc.) out there for playing MKVs with hiqh quality h.264 material. In addition, it's like the only media player left, which hasn't adapted the Lion fullscreen mode yet. That's positive in my opinion, because I intend to do something on my mac, while watching my favorite TV shows. I don't know if it's a good BD player, but it's a great player for movie-files for sure!

meanwhile this app is getting better and better. I don't understand why there is such a negative opinion about it. Until apple doesn't integrate a similar or better blu-ray player into OS X, it is the only app that will now do a good job.

At $59.95, wouldn't it be almost feasable to buy a lower end Windows-based machine, add a Blu-Ray drive and be able to play games also?

At $59.95 Id prefer getting a cheap BluRay player and hook it up to my HDTV or a PS3 if I want games, too.

the price is high, that's write. I have had the chance to get it much cheaper within a bundle, therefore i didn't think at this...

The criticism is based on an outrages $60 price tag. I don't doubt this is a great app but the developer has priced himself out. It's cheaper to just convert a Blu-ray DVD to standard HD and watch it on my Mac.

The price is a bit high. But what disturbs me the most is I have asked several questions to developer on Twitter and he has yet responded to one. I hate poor customer service.

I am sticking with the free VLC until he answers my questions. Blu-Ray Player is definitely better than VLC but is it worth $60 more for the additional features?

Sigh...

Wouldn't it be F***ING nice if Apple actually supported Blu-ray playback and data writing on Blu-ray discs? I'd personally love Blu-ray support built in to burn my data to discs for archiving data.

all intel iMacs and mac pros can indeed BURN blu ray media, the problem is we just can't read them!! you can install the $20 bu-ray plugin if you have roxio toast and author your own blu ray discs, you just won't be able to test or watch them on your mac

Of course to call "author blu ray disk" what you can do using Toast it is a nice joke :-) The only authoring app for MacOsX it is Adobe Encore.

total rubbish... it wouldn't play half the Blu-Ray disks I tested... but VLC played them all... ha! the author has some balls to charge $60 for this badly designed. mediocre and buggy trash. shame on you...
If you want BD playback on a Mac, Get VLC - it plays everything, it's free.

IMHO this product is useless, as without internet you are not able to watch Bluray movies.....

according :
"First thank you for using our program.
When you playback Blu-ray films, about 4-5 seconds are needed to remove the Blu-ray protection with network.
So I'm afraid you can't play your blu-ray disc offline.
Sorry for inconvenience."

What is useless is your rating and your review.

Why rate something poorly twice? Hey I know, why not rate it 100 times and really mess up the whole point of this website...

A "1" rating on a "10" scale should be reserved for somewhat that is zoo poor in quality it does not even load or worse it damages your system. This application plays Blu-ray movies, exactly what it says it will do.

As to you not having internet access, in what tree are you using your laptop?

This product requires ONLINE Internet connection to play:
- officially bought and licensed Blu-ray movies
- with officially bought and licensed Blu-ray Player SW
- on officially bought and licensed Blu-ray drive

Again: without Internet connection you cannot watch your Blu-ray movies.....you just get something like " Key server not available"

My recommendation: stay away from this product if you (like me) are after watching movies in times with no Internet out in the trenches........

Version 1.11.0.0728

This software seems to be stable enough now for a rating. The last several versions worked fine on my Mac Pro (early 2009) a quad-core Intel with 10.7.2 OSX.

The software takes you straight to the movie, bypassing the previews and standard trappings of the traditional Blu-ray DVD. I'm not sure I consider this a defect, since all the junk in front of most films is something I do not miss.

As for this legality issue related to VLC open source code, I don't see how this is a user issue. I have paid for more than one application that appears to be a rip-off another application (for example: BusyCal is iCal with window dressing -- kinda shocked Apple does not sue them).

The Mac world needs Blu-ray movie capability, so I'm not one to look for reasons to not buy whatever solution finally arrives (despite all the initial problems). If like me you love movies, have an HD monitor, an HD capable video card, and a 5.1 sound system -- you want to be able to play Blu-ray. Now you finally can.

According to ArsTechnica (an extremely reputable news site) this software is likely violating the GPL license by using portions of VLC without being open source. That means, essentially, that buying this application amounts to purchasing stolen goods. Buyer beware.

Dthdunn had trouble on 11 Nov 2011
The following message was sent to the manufacturer:

=================

Diagnostics steps taken:

Removed current version of Blu-ray player, including all preferences and associated files.

Loaded version 1.0 of Blu-ray player.

Loaded Blu-ray movie and started Blu-ray Player software. Movie starts.

Stopped movie and closed Blu-ray player. Restarted Blu-ray Player and searched for updates. Downloaded current version. Loaded software.

Started Blu-ray played and tried to start movie. Movie would not start. I get the following error message:

Failed to get Blu-ray disc playlist.

What do you want me to test next? As I have stated from the beginning, version 1.0 works and the releases after 1.0 do not.

Mac Pro with 2x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel, 16GB DDR3, OS 10.7.2, Matshita Blu-ray device (internal).

I have Mac Blu-ray Player 1.9.5 installed on both of my Mac minis. It works fine with the 2009 model but it does not work with the 2011 Mac mini server and I got the exact same error message:
Failed to get Blu-ray disc playlist
Both of my Mac minis running Lion, so my question is why does it work with Lion but not Lion server?
