You have understandable concerns. However, the Stock Keeper database "file" is actually a special type of folder called a "package". To the user, it's treated like a file, but to OS X it's a folder. ALL your individual files are inside as-is, and the database file itself remains quite small (typically 1MB or less). If you right-click the "Stock Keeper Library.stockkeeperd" package in your Pictures folder and select "Show package contents", you can examine what's inside. Don't change anything in there by hand, however, as it will obviously mess things up, but if everything goes kerflooie, all your media files are still accessible.

I can't wait to see what features subsequent versions bring.

I think Stock Keeper is a great app for finding FPOs and managing hi-res libraries. Tried demos of Media Pro and Portfolio along with this. Stock Keeper fits my workflow way better. The built-in browser is slick.
I'd like to see some workgroup collaboration stuff or client-server version, as well as better integration into Creative Suite, but it's a great start, and at $20 is way cheaper than Portfolio.

On opening I received 6 dialogue windows about not being able to locate a file - this was a fresh install.
Drop a file into the library and you get a drop down window to tag it, followed immediately by the spinning beach ball - which doesn't go away. Tried with several different files, same result.
Deleted. I don't have time to waste on rubbish like this.
