Extensive discussions and exchanges with the developer has solved my earlier problem.

The software assumes all images have identical pixel dimensions. The images I was trying to stitch were scans of slides, so each was slightly different in size, and the software couldn't stitch the files. Once the images were cropped to identical pixel dimensions, all went well.

Developer has been terrific in engaging with me in solving my problem. Recommend trying the software.

+ Automatic mode works fine
+ Projection editor is interactive, see results immediately
- No fisheye lens support
- No manual mode like in more expensive software (AutoPano)

Here is my panorama stitched with PanoEdit: http://forums.photographyreview.com/484846-post1.html.

Just tried the demo with a series of 20 images shot on a pro VR tripod with pro Nikon body and lenses. Images have sufficient overlap (approx 30%) to allow other VR and stitching software to merge/blend/stitch into part- or complete panoramas, including 360° VRs.

Not this one - PanoEdit repeatedly indicated insufficient overlap and was unable to stitch even 2 pictures together.

Useless.

Hi Eric, could we have the chance to see the images you were not able to stitch?

Did a quick try with three photos, first with PanoEdit, after that with DoubleTake. Both are rather quick, but the result of DoubleTake is much, much better. PanoEdit cuts large part of the photos that still are part of the DoubleTake panorama.

Sorry, I changed the name of the album and didn't realize that the link changed too. Find my panorama here:

Just a note: after some email discussion we have found that this panorama can be easily fixed in PanoEdit projection editor.

That's true, but it took much more time then in DoubleTake, it costs 5 dollars more then DT and I lost some parts of the image. See on Picasa.
