We're getting closer to RC1. But I've stopped selling Mac servers now because of the MASSIVE problems with Lion server. This version fixes only some of the problems, but the horse has bolted. You can get much better capability, performance and reliability for less dollars elsewhere.

Only consider Lion server if you want easy netboot capability. Reposado is a better update server. Everything is a better web server. Everything is a better wiki. Profile manager solves a problem I can't find on mobile devices but is good for macs (if you are big enough to make use of mdm then profile manager is too small for you - if you are small enough to use profile manager, iphone config util will give you the same control without the poor documentation and massive headaches as you'll be extremely unlikely to need to update your profiles ota).

More features, better performance, more compatibility and longevity in just about every direction. It doesn't so much matter which direction you move in, so long as you're moving away from Lion server you're making an improvement.

I've never felt negative about previous OS upgrades. There were always issue to overcome but the new features and improvements far outweighed them. This one is even worse than being the exact opposite. So sad.

This is a bad situation, I've heard bad things about Lion server elsewhere as well. Have you had a chance to check and see if the new 10.3.4 at least addresses most of the issues? The "what's new" seems pretty comprehensive, so I guess I'm slightly hopeful...

Thought Mac did not care about the server market - guess this is just for Mac Mini users....?

I think Apple have all the pieces a little investment and they could nail the server market. They just never invested in it enough.

Bring Mac Ports in house bring back some great server hardware..keep costs in check...get some deals done with vmware...yeah they could do it they failed because all their attention was on the consumer market.

Then again do they want to do everything?

• WebDAV permissions are terribly broken.
Not only when checking the permission thru the finder or thru the Server app produce different results, but also it's impossible to make a "rename" operation work.
So, a user can create, delete, upload and download files or folders, but it's impossible to change the name of them, no matter what it's on the ACLs.

• Printer sharing no longer works thru internet

• iCal server keep giving reconnecting problem to iOS clients

Just a little more info that I just found out:
iCal server somehow forgets to push the birthday field to some clients (like iCal itself), so every time that a card is edited on another machine, that card will lose the birthday info (if theres any, of course)

HI! I have just bought a mac mini server. Yesterday I set up the Admin account, updated to 10.7.2, then made migration (with assistant) from my macbook (on which I am having the updated lion client version).
Now I have my old profile as a user account on the server, and when I log in the automatic software update tells me that I have to download lion server update for this account also.
But I have it already on the Admin, should I download again the nearly 1gb stuff also at account level?

Thanks for your advice
