Just like iPhoto it hangs towards the end of the installation. Only on this MacBook. The iMac and Mac Pro are always fine. If your laptop hangs with iPhoto installs, it will probably hang with the 10.7.4 combo installer too.
I thought it had hung on my Macbook, but after about an hour it finally finished. The whole installation took about 1.5 hours. Weird, that's the longest Mac OS X install time I've ever seen.
being a Mac user since 1993 and currently looking after 9 intel Mac's and my experience with Lion is as follows:
It works reasonably well for hobby user who maybe sync there iPhone do a bit of web browsing and email and only have a dozen of programs installed and open at a time, for example my media center, or my wife's Mini makes very little trouble (though even that freezes occasionally and needs to be force restarted).
However for Power user (Quad Intel 32 MB Ram, latest and biggest iMac 16GB ram etc) is is very, very buggy, slow and in my eyes the worst OS apple released in a long time.
The spinning beach ball show up far to often and for far to long, machines in- explicitly restart itself, windows in the background are un-responsive until you actually click on the window bar.
An yes I have apple support for all machines and used it extensively and there are also no known conflicting software I use.
I switched several machines back to SL
and they run smooth without any of the issues Lion has.
Should the HDD Macintosh HD be showing up in the sidebar under Favourites. Don't remember it being there before and its not on the list of favourites of Finder Prefs. Hard Disks option under Devices un ticked and still there under favs.
For anyone who uses quicktime player 7, did you noticed that after the 10.7.4 update that the loop and loop back and forth options stay greyed out even with content open? I have a qt 7 pro license, so I know it's not because of that..
I tried uninstalling quicktime player 7 and doing a fresh install, without a fix. Maybe apple is finally moving away from quicktime legacy compatibility/support. Either way, everything else seems to work, I've switched to vlc, or mplayerx for alternatives to quicktime player.
I found an awkward workaround for some of this. It's not a perfect solution, by any means. If you go here:
http://www003.upp.so-net.ne.jp/mycometg3/
look for the program called "QTP7Controller 0.7.2." It lets you set looping, although not loop back and forth. It's also awkward to have to set looping via a secondary program. On the other hand, it's better than what Apple's providing.
Mojo66 has found the guilty (/System/Library/Frameworks/QTKit.framework) as mentionned in the Apple QT Discussion.
Time Machine is your friend to restore the previous version (17/02/2012)
The upgrade messed up my mail settings, reactivating mail settings I had put away, but after deactivating them again, things seem to be working okay.
I didn't have any problems restarting, but I always repair permissions and check the drives integrity before I install an upgrade to the operating system.
Lion 7.4 re-hides my user Library, and replaces the glorious login screen image of mine (in my humble opinion) with the dirty industrial-grey linen backdrop.
Please Apple, if we have the capacity to tweak our Macs, don't dumb them down or revert elegance to industrial linen!
Maybe because a significant bug in 5,1,6 was discovered after 10.7.4 was scheduled for release and it was quicker to update Safari to 5.1.7 separately instead of delaying/remastering 10.7.4 to include it. Wouldn't surprise me if there's a followup 10.7.4 "Rev2" release relatively soon that includes 5.1.7, similar to a few other followup revisions Apple's made.
I like some of the new features lion offers, and for the most part I find the os, to be problem free for me, however, there is one nasty bug I have encountered in the last couple months, that I can't seem to resolve.
I switched from cable to 4G for internet and now have a MiFi hotspot from verizon, everything is fine when i'm connected to the internet. The problem is, when I turn off the hotspot over night, the system will totally crash at random times while there is no internet connection, the only real way i have solved this is to actually put the macbook to sleep.
I tried the airport fix, of downgrading the airport driver to 3.2 from snow leopard, and it still crashes, so i'm getting the impression it's another part of the os, or an application/service running that crashes when there is no internet. I'm not sure if it's a full kernel panic because i let the display sleep but let the mac run, and the display is still off, but the rest of the mac is locked up. I have looked at console after such an event and i don't get much help there as in any really distinct information regarding the crash.
My Macbook is a macbook 2,1 core 2 duo 2 GB Ram graphics intel GMA 950 For now I have gone back to snow leopard, the only thing Lion truly offers me over snow leopard at this point is the integration with icloud right in address book for contacts and safari for bookmarks, etc, however these are simply handy tools and not deal breakers. I have as an alternative to icloud imported my contacts from icloud into google and sync snow leopard with that.
Any help would be appreciated. As far as i know from all the reports i've seen, Lion is the latest os my hardware can handle, unless apple changes the requirements in mountain lion's final release.
If someone can help me resolve this please let me know.
I tried going back to SL, thought I had it working, and realized some things are NOT working. When I drag over my Mail file from the 10.7 disk, then start to use mail it forces an import which wipes out the transferred mail data.
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO GET 10.6 MAIL WORKING WITH DATA FROM 10.7? The Mail program is the same rev level. Doing an import does not work either. With my mail data I must return to using Lion. HELP!!!
10 minutes after updating i get what i've been getting every other day since i installed this software: a slowly descending gray screen saying that i need to hold down the power button to shut down. i guess that's what i get for pushing my machine to the limits by using the internet and dragging and dropping files.
this is by far the buggiest piece of software (POS) i have ever used.
You will not hear from many, like myself, who are still using SN and have no immediate plans to use this version until it is more stable since anything else would wreck havoc with business.
The install restart got into a loop trying to load GoogleDesktopAgent.app which I had failed to find pre upgrade. Force quitting Software Update was no relief, it just came back immediately. Booting into Root caused the box to hang. Twice. Being very patient dismissing no-load complaints I found and deleted the offending software and restarted successfully.
In Mail, Spam Sieve is gone. It's ugly already, as mail generated by Calendar is turning up as Spam. Ugh.
In Safari, my bookmarks are all intact, but none actually work. I mean, I can copy and paste them successfully, but clicking them, or pulling down to one elicits no response whatsoever. Ditto cookies. 1Password is a no-show which I have, admittedly, not checked out for an update yet.
I'm not jumping for Time Machine yet, but I'm glad to know I've got it.

Apple OS X Lion is built on a rock-solid UNIX foundation, engineered to take full advantage of the technologies in every new Mac, and designed to deliver the most intuitive and integrated computer experience possible.
Hardware and software made for each other. Since the software on every Mac is created by the same company that makes the Mac, you get a fully integrated system in which everything works together perfectly. OS X works with the processor architecture in your Mac to deliver the best possible performance. Mac notebooks include a Multi-Touch trackpad that lets you pinch, swipe, and tap your way through every app on the system. OS X gives you long battery life by dimming the screen in low-light conditions and even regulating processor activity between keystrokes.
Easy to use and incredibly powerful. From the desktop you see when you start up your Mac to the applications you use every day, everything is designed with simplicity and elegance in mind. So getting things done is both intuitive and fun. Of course, making amazing things simple takes seriously advanced technologies, and OS X is loaded with them. Not only is it built on a rock-solid, time-tested UNIX foundation that provides unparalleled stability, it also delivers incredible performance, stunning graphics, and industry-leading support for Internet standards.
Secure by design. OS X doesn't get PC viruses. And with virtually no effort on your part, the operating system protects itself from other malicious applications. Because every Mac ships with a secure configuration, you don't have to worry about changing complex settings in order to stay safe. Even better, OS X won't slow you down with constant security alerts and sweeps. Apple responds quickly to online threats and automatically delivers security updates. And with FileVault 2 in OS X Lion, all the data on your Mac is protected by powerful encryption.
Built for compatibility. The versatility and power of OS X help a Mac fit in just about anywhere--including Windows networks. Want to transfer your files, photos, and other data from a Windows PC? OS X lets you do that easily. If you want to run Windows on your Mac, you can do that, too. OS X has built-in support for the latest version of Microsoft Exchange Server, so you can use your Mac at home and at work and keep all your messages, meetings, and contacts in one place. OS X works with virtually all of today's digital cameras, printers, and other peripherals without the need to manually download separate drivers. And it opens popular file types such as JPG, MP3, and PDF, as well as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents.
Accessible innovation. OS X comes standard with a wide range of assistive technologies that help people with disabilities experience what the Mac has to offer, including many features you won't find in other operating systems
