MacDropHide has been discontinued as its functionality has been replaced by Broomstick.

MacDropHide is a simple app that painlessly allows Mac users to hide the Dropbox menubar icon. MacDropHide works by taking Dropbox's icon files ("dropbox-box-icon-1.png", for instance), and renaming them to have ".hidden" on the end ("dropbox-box-icon-1.png.hidden", for instance). This means that when Dropbox goes looking for the icon files, it can't find them, and subsequently doesn't show anything in the menubar.

Yay, an application to hide a another applications icon (ha ha). Seriously though, I am using it, and it does exactly what it says. If it remains stable, I would update my rating.

There were a number of requests from Dropbox users to be able to hide the Dropbox menubar icon. Dropbox hasn't yet provided this functionality, so I created MacDropHide to fill this gap.

This app certainly isn't for everyone, but there are a number of users for whom this app is very useful.
