Absolutely amazing product! Have been searching for a program to monitor a range of services on our network at work, every program I could find either didn't have the features I needed, or weren't stable enough to run in a server environment.
Excellent program and well worth the price. I cant imagine any sysadmins finding any flaws. Plus if you cant find the type of alert you are looking for, you can script one yourself!
We use Simon to monitor:
-FTP servers (sends an email if they go down)
-Internet connection (growls to sys admins on the network if it is lost)
-Monitor the status of running applications (notifies us if they stop running, ie. if our backup software crashes)
-Send reboot reports (if someone has rebooted the machine)
We also have it set to email out every 30 minutes, so we know that its running smoothly.
By far the feature that inspired me to write this review (and no they dont pay me, though I'd happily accept a free copy ;D) was the automatic reporting. Simon generates a report and publishes it to our web-server, so we can check up on the details of all the alarms we have set (there is even a iphone theme).
(Running this on OS X 10.7.1)
