iControlTunes is an iTunes Remote for the Mac.

I based my work on the Android app TunesRemote.

I've used some icons from the also excellent iPad Remote called yTrack.
What's New
Version 1.3.6:
  • Fixed a bug that would not show the Artwork on the remote, and added Growl support
Requirements
  • Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.6 or later
  • 64-bit processor

After getting the newest version and following the pdf directions; it works! Excellent.

Thank you to the developer for providing something that Apple should have already.

Did you click the bonjour icon first and then registered the remote on the second mac? That is the second step you need to do to make it work.

Like I said none of the buttons do anything and there is no reaction on the second mac, do I need to change anything there, sharing pref or maybe in Itunes itself?

Can you first get the last version, I just uploaded 1.3.3. You do have 10.6.x right? The bonjour icon should start the registration process like it is said in the pdf that is supplied with the application. You should then see the Remote display in the Remote iTunes.

Did a fresh download but still no luck! Running 10.6.6, Itunes 10.1.2 on a Mac Mini now operated via screen sharing from a Macbook pro.
The bonjour button does not do anything and the initial dialog to fill in the name also does not appear anymore.

For some reason it now works as advertised, I have no idea what went wrong first but at least it now works OK!
sorry for the hassle!

Could you do shift apple g and then ~/Library/Preferences/iTunesRemote/.
Check if there is a file pairremote.py there?
If is there, could you please on the Mac that you want the control to work open the Terminal.app from utilities and paste in the window:

python ~/Library/Preferences/iTunesRemote/pairremote.py

open another window (apple N).

and paste

mDNS -R "0000000000000000000000000000000000000001" _touch-remote._tcp . 1024 DvNm='MacOS Remote' Pair=0000000000000001

this should make iTunes show a MacOS Remote on the remote Mac.

Thanks for sharing your work with everyone. You might want to consider different branding, though. Your use of "Mac OS X" and "iTunes" in the name, as well as Apple's own remote icon, make this appear to be an official Apple product at first glance. :)

It's actually not Apple's own icon, it looks very similar I know. And I actually wanted to name it something useful. But you advice is appreciated. It would be best if Apple just made something like this but much better ;-). Although 1.3 is up on my site and should be really usable.

Hello, hey just a little friendly note, the word iTunes is copyrighted, I would not be surprised if you get a email from Apple to change it and too for the word MacOS X. I think you can use the words in the description just not a title of an application.

I'm sure you are all experts on this, so what would you name this application to make sure it's clear what it does while not using any Apple Copyrights? I'm happy to rename it, I just don't have any good name.

I changed the name to iControlTunes, as I think that also tells what it does.

Great, the new name of iControlTunes makes it clear what this does, but without directly using Apple's trademarks.

I love the idea of this software, and look forward to using it. Unfortunately I have the following roadblock:

When I click the 'Register Remote' icon, the remote instance of iTunes asks me for a passcode. What is the passcode that I should use?
