This is just another application i will not buy because the developer will not offer a try before you buy version.

Too bad.

I guess the developer does not want to make money.

He could program a version that has a limited number startups.

$25 may well be a fair price, but this really highlights the problem with the AppStore: no demo version. I have no way of verifying if that app is great or just a p.o.c.

I've got two problems here:

1. When I try to view it in the App Store, it says it's not available in the U.S. store.

2. And even if it were, am I really, truly supposed to fork out $25 up front without being able to test this? Seriously? Based on what I saw of the interface, I can probably find these kinds of scripts for free with a minimum of Google searching. And I've found many a developer out there who has taken a few moments of their time to help me write simple scripts for free. I'd rather give $25 in donations to those guys.

1. The link on this site is bad, despite me submitting the correct link twice to MacUpdate. Search for Magic Script Creator in the Mac App Store and it will come up.

2. Magic Script Creator is on sale till May 9th for $9.99. Googling for AppleScripts is not the same thing as my program. This application creates customs scripts on the fly based on user interaction. It takes an enormous amount of work to accomplish this. I plan on adding more examples over time, all part of free updates. I believe $25 is a fair price for this unique software.

Napabar's product serves a special niche of Mac users, and for them it is quite useful. Googling for applescripts is more educational, but that may not always be in line with what the user wants to do.

Magic Script Creator lets you build custom, fully functional AppleScripts by answering a few simple questions.

Have you ever wanted to study AppleScript, but learn better by tinkering? Do you know some AppleScript, but would like to lean about incorporating POSIX paths and UNIX command lines tools within your script? Part development tool, part learning tool, Magic Script Creator is the answer!

There is no need to have any knowledge of AppleScript to start with. Magic Script Creator has eight different examples than can be configured hundreds of different ways! All you have to do is answer some questions about each example, and Magic Script Creator will do the rest. It will create a fully functional AppleScript based on the parameters you answered. Most of the examples will involve using UNIX command line tools buried deep in Mac OS X, and Magic Script Creator will automatically resolve AppleScript paths with POSIX paths. It will even name your script based on the specific parameters that you answered!

The following examples are included:
  • Place Windows - Create an AppleScript that will automatically snap up to three windows into place for the application and window positions that you choose.
  • Copy Files - Create an AppleScript that will copy files to the destination of your choice. The Open File Dialog Box will be configured to start in the folder of your choice.
  • Move File - Create an AppleScript that will move files to the destination of your choice. The Open File Dialog Box will be configured to start in the folder of your choice.
  • Sync Folder - Create an AppleScript that will sync files between two folders of your choice. Options to preserve or delete orphan files included.
    • Document Converter - Create an AppleScript that will convert various document files into other formats. Choose the format, extension filters, starting and destination folders.
    • Image Converter - Create an AppleScript that will convert various image files into other formats. Choose the format, extension filters, starting and destination folders.
    • AAC Converter - Create an AppleScript that will convert WAV and AIFF audio files into the AAC format. Choose the bit-rate, starting and destination folders.
    • AppleScript Bundle - Create an AppleScript Bundle that will incorporate a custom image file that will be displayed in a dialog box, and a custom sound that can be played.
