MagicMenu is a set of freeware utilities that allows you to auto-hide the top menu bar in Mac OS X. It currently allows you to turn auto-hide on/off for each individual application (even the Finder). There is also a toggle utility for you to toggle auto-hide on/off for each application. The MagicMenu utilities supports drag-and-drop interface, so that you can drop individual applications onto the utilities or you can drop a bunch of applications at once to turn top menu auto-hide on and off. A handy piece of software. Works as stated; however, there is one negative side effect:

for Apps that have the Magic Menu (3.0) turned on, the Spotlight menu icon no longer works -- at least not for my MPB (Intel, OSX 10.6.8). Don't know if this is a bug or just how it has to be given the vagaries of the OS.

In any case I had to dock the app one star on account of this.

I realize this application hasn't been updated for a while and is given as is, without support, so I'm not complaining here, but do want to point out a couple other issues:

1) Transparent menu bar does not work for apps with magic menu turned on

2) Also, it appears MM gummed up my transparent menu bar setting; even though I had transparent menu bar checked, the bar was opaque in all cases, then after much gnashing of teeth and several searches, finally came upon the fix:

-> Use Onyx: Parameters > Finder > Menu Bar Background

That said, I still use MM and would it my celebrity endorsement if I were one.

This software shows it can work on Intel Machines, but when we install it on Lion it shows it as a PPC Software. Do you have any updates coming out to fix this issue? Because I use it on a Snow Leopard machine & I love it!!!
