Trialled this and all was good until a couple of weeks into the trial period when my Mac became incredibly slow, almost to the point of choking. Deleted it and all is back to normal.

Here's a link I found to properly uninstall it, it deals specifically with BitDefender Don't just trash it from the Applications folder, that won't work.

My low star review is because it has slowed my computer and I dont think that its worth using this for the features it claims to provide if the trade off is for that.

TIA

Looks good, but when it tells you of a problem and you choose the fix it option it just rescans the files. Well good enough but do I really want to wait over 19 hours to rescan when it should just F**king fix the problem.

Oh, did I mention that this program causes more problems than it fixes? Progamer fail.

After using BD for a while I noticed Activity Monitor showing a process called BDDaemon consistently using about 530MB of memory.
Wow, this little beast is a memory hog.
True, it didn't cause my MacBook Pro any noticeable performance degradation but that kind of memory use for one process IS excessive especially when going on continuously,
So I uninstalled BD and will stick with ClamX for now.
But you're saying "There are no viruses for Macs out there currently" and your right but it's just a matter of time before one or more are unleashed upon us and and I think it prudent to have some protection and be familiar with using it.

Yeah,BDDaemon was using over 500MB here too so I uninstalled BitDefender and installed Sophos AV instead; Sophos is using very little memory and runs beautifully.

Incidentally, BitDefender for Mac is NOT free as Stated here at MacUpdate but $40 per year whereas Sophos certainly is free.

Twice now, BitDefender's anti-virus program has alerted me to what turned out to be false positives.
I ran the virus scan and it came up with nothing.
I know that there are currently no real virus threats for Mac, but I like to keep an anti virus program on hand for the day when there is a threat.....sooner or later one will rear its ugly head.

It's a really fast and ressource-saving scanner. You can also turn of the background-scanner.

I know that most people think, that a Mac don't needs a scanner.
I don't think so. I want to be prepared.

If you are only using it as a scanner, there are plenty of free online tools that accomplish this. No need to worry about keeping software up to date.

For real time protection, I would say either Nod32 or Sophos are your best options for the Mac. Nod32 is the best for both Mac and Windows, but is paid software. Sophos is good enough for most people and is free. Both of these do not consume the system resources that Bit Defender does.

Bit Defender includes anti-spyware and anti-phishing detection along with virus protection.
As far as I know, it's the only program around that includes all three functions.
I gave it a test run and found it not particularly fast. Perhaps the inclusion of ant-phishing and anti-spyware functions slows Bit Defender down. Anyway, it seems to be pretty thorough......it claimed to find and delete 6 java related cooties on my Mac.
Bit Defender is NOT free as stated here but $40 for a one year's license, $60 for two years and $90 for three years.....a bit pricey but in line with other anti-virus software.
With the malware threat to Macs increasing, it does make sense to consider some protection and have it on hand.
Looks like Bit Defender's anti-phishing and anti-spyware functions give it a leg up on other anti virus software.
I just might go for it if it were available at a discount such as a MU Promo.

Looks like Virusbarrier has anti-phishing and anti-spyware capability too but in light of issues users have experienced with VB(crashes, kernel panics, difficulty in deleting all VB's files when uninstalling the app), I've decided to forgo using it.
