There is a memory leak in 4.1. I'm running this on an iMac that has 16 gigs of memory and after running continously for a couple of days, all my free memory is gone and Evocam will crash.

I have ran 3.0 for a couple of years. On it sometimes the interface was goofy on adding network cameras. So when 4.0 came out I upgraded immediately. Like the new interface, so much easier to manage cameras. I run 6 IP cameras in one window.

The only downer is the amount of CPU usage. On an iMac i5 it runs 80% (used by EvoCam) most of the time. Slows up the computer quite a bit. If the developer could improve the cpu usage, I'd give it 5 stars.

This really is excellent stuff, thank you.

The only problems I've had have been getting the wireless camera connected to my router (thanks to terrible mac support from the camera manufacturer). Once that was done, enter Evo Cam and the rest was a breeze. I was able to select my camera from a drop-down list and it just worked. I had several requirements - ftp'ing a named image to my server every minute, storing an image locally every minute so that I can make a timelapse, and storing a daily image for a different timelapse. I've been able to do all this and a lot more. Being able to crop the camera's image and add my website's name along with the timestamp was all a bonus.

Very easy to use without referral to the manual and does far more than I need. Very happy to pay. Thanks again.

I dont understand why V4 doesnt support all IP Cams which were supported in Version 3!
I understand thats impossible to support all , but why lost support of IP cams which are already implemented in V3.
My EDIMAX 1500GW works with 3.0 but is not listed in 4.0. So i will not buy V 4.0.

I get it managed (my EDIMAX) by using the configure IP Cam (universal) entry. Worked. Should be no problem for the devs to add some of the working V3 devices as entry profiles into V4, i think.
I understand that first they work on main development tasks before adding the known older IP cams.

i was a happy owner of 3.x but i'm not too fond of 4.x version right now, it just seems like a rewrite that took away half the features i used. As it stands now it doesn't have nearly the assortment of options the previous version had. I go to recording options and there really aren't any. I want to control everything, and i just dont have those "knobs" so to speak in 4.x. hopefully they return

Completely agree. First Skype wrecked their interface for me now EvoCam seems to be on the same trip. Why change what worked well?

"adds new daytime/nighttime and daylight schedules, video quality adjustment, support for more network cameras, and fixes several issues affecting application stability and performance."
Thank you. I'll give it a whirl and see if it's more usuable now.

I own ImageCaster, Evocam & SecuritySpy. I have been using SecuritySpy daily for over 5 years and none of the others compare to the features that SecuritySpy provides. I have 6 camera's in my house to keep an eye on my dogs and SecuritySpy gives me that peace of mind to know they are ok by just logging in to the built-in web server of SecuritySpy and checking in on my dogs.

SecuritySpy Rocks!

If you're not going to take even a small amount of time to describe why/how Evocam falls short of SecuritySpy, then you should have written this on the page for SecuritySpy, not here.

Bonus pro tip: The plural of "camera" is "cameras" not "camera's".

Spitfire, you are correct. I will give more thorough review of Evocam 4, shortly.

BTW: Thanks for the grammar lesson.

This program has great features but seems to be a massive CPU hog. On my Black Macbook it constantly uses 80% CPU when just monitoring the isight on the machine. I cant have my comp basically maxed out just having Evocam open not to mention when it actually detects motion.

I love the program and features but it just isn't fast enough on older hardware even with the pref checked to reduce cpu usage.

I bought a license earlier this evening after demo'ing EvoCam with a variety of rather difficult to work with network cameras (Trendnet TV-IP110, TV-IP110W, TV-IP312W) specifically to get support for the Rosewill RXS-3211. Less than 4 hours passed between my initial email (1 hour of that was due to me not getting back to the wonderful folks at Evological) before a new build with support for the RXS-3211 was emailed to me.

The only proviso I'd give, if you want to watch lots of network cameras: "hide" your active windows and watch via mjpeg in a browser window instead. This may be isolated to just my machine but running lots of opengl windows for an extended period (2-3 days) caused me to have artifacts that wouldn't go away without a reboot. This is NOT a problem with EvoCam, but a problem either with my mac/it's Nvidia GT120 cards in multi-head or with 10.6. I currently have a crap .html file that I've created that lists img src = http://localhost/N/video.cgi for each of my active network camera windows and it's working swimmingly. Another bit of advise, depending on your camera, avoid mpeg4/rtsp, as my attempts to use it with VLC and Quicktime Player both resulted in the same artifacts that I mentioned above.

In conclusion, this is the best money -period- I've spent on software for my Mac. And bravo to the Evological team for answering support requests -quickly- in the middle of the night.

I have been using EvoCam since 2008. I had downloaded many different trials before making my decision and EvoCam for the features and the money was my choice. I have not been disappointed. Set up was fairly intuitive. I struggled a bit, but I consider that normal for a new piece of software that has so many features. I did need to contact their support and got a nearly instant response. Amazing!

I was using it with three cameras (two wireless network cameras and one usb) to keep an eye on my 86 year old father who was living with us. I set it up each camera to upload a picture to a web page every three minutes and then archive 50 or so to another page. I also have it set up (with the help of DynDns) to see live feeds. When Dad would fall, I could call a neighbor to pop in and help him up. (I am lucky to have such a nice neighbor.) It was great piece of mind.

Then one day I go to the office and boot my computer and the sound is all the way up. I almost never have the sound turned on. So, I bring one of my cameras to work and set it up there to monitor my workstation. Turns out one of the tenants in an adjoining space was breaking into our office at night to watch porn on my computer. With the help of EvoCam and the police we caught him and had the incriminating photos to prove it. (Trust me, these were porn in their own right.) He went to jail! I went out for Lysol. Yuk!

Now, two cameras monitor the dogs and the house on motion detection and one monitors my work station.

I keep my EvoCam up to date and have had no issues. I have used it both on a PPC and an Intel Mac.

EvoCam has worked flawlessly for me. I highly recommend it.
