mBox Mail integrates into your Intel based Mac system and enables any* IMAP capable mail client to communicate with the Hotmail mail servers. This provides many advantages over the outdated POP3 protocol.
If you love Hotmail but feel trapped not having access to the benefits of a desktop mail client, try mBox Mail for Mac.
What's New
Version 1.0: Release notes were unavailable when this listing was updated.
@N-Rick -- I don't think you understand how mBox Mail for Mac works.
It does NOT access Hotmail using the POP protocol at all!! In fact a program is NOT needed at all to access the Hotmail via POP. MS now provides FREE access to Hotmail using POP.
mBox for Mac is quite different. it translates the Hotmail Web interface into the IMAP protocol. This allows you to access Hotmail via IMAP. IMAP is so much better than POP. For example, you can move messages between folders stored on the Hotmail servers. In the past, the ONLY way you could do this was via the Hotmail web interface with all the ads.
If you want to access Hotmail using IMAP, mBox Mail for Mac is the ONLY program that does this to my knowledge. Of course, I wish there was a FREE solution. But I cannot find one.
@Jack75 -- The FreePOPs website states "FreePOPs is an easily extensible program, which allows access to the most varied resources through the POP3 protocol."
FreePops uses the POP3 protocol NOT the IMAP protocol. I looked at the FreePOP docs and I see no mention of IMAP. I see only references to POP3.
And if you want to access Hotmail using POP3, you no longer need a program like FreePOPs. A few years ago, Microsoft allowed users to access their Hotmail accounts via a Desktop Client using POP3. But NOT using IMAP.
POP3 ONLY allows you to download your INBOX. IMAP syncs ALL your folders -- INBOX, SENT MAIL, etc. It is so much better.
mbox Mail is the only program I know that allows you to access your Hotmail account with your Desktop Mail program using the IMAP program. I wish it was less expensive.
