Smart Drive... If you've ever lost data to a hard drive failure before, you know how much that can suck. If you haven't, then don't get too confident. Hard drives are very prone to failure and most don't survive past three or four years of age.
Luckily, nearly two-thirds of of hard drive failures can be detected well before they occur! Smart Drive will give you unprecedented peace of mind when it comes to your hard drive's health. It will invisibly monitor your hard drive's status (using a technology called SMART and based on statistical analyses performed by researchers at
Good advice, thanks! I'll make a trial version and post it in the very near future. I'm still a student, so things take me a bit more than a full-time developer to finish :)
My last comment on another app I was considering said the same as you. How do you know whether you like it until you've given it a go. In this case we're talking $2.49 lol
Besides, how are we to know it works until our hard drives are failing and it alerts us? At least then our $2.49 investment is proven to be worthwhile.
Anything less than that and it's all just 'faith' :D
With the free apps, we can download them, have a look and try them out. If we don't like the look and/or not useful, we can simply bin it. In this case, we pay upfront for the HD failure function without knowing whether we like the look of it or not. Smart Reporter is a small HD green icon in the menubar which turns yellow if there is a problem, and red if it fails. Is there an explanation or do we need to buy it first to see how it works?
Must admit, I prefer to see what I'm getting before I pay.
Seeing it is a long term feature, perhaps say a 3 day trial just to check the features would be good.
$2.49 eh? I've been using Smart Reporter, but it wouldn't take much to switch over to this app.
Seems like the Dev would like a few bucks for their effort with this one. Not too 'unreasonable' is it…$2.49?
I'm not affiliated, but it's always nice to see a handy little app @ a few dollars. Even at this low price, If enough people take it up, it is a 'win' for all.
Thank you for the kind words, Designg! I think SMARTReporter is a fine app, but I wanted to produce something that was a bit less intrusive and had a cleaner UI (and as Mac users, I'm sure we can all appreciate these things). And you're right, I was hoping people wouldn't find the small fee too much--it keeps me going!

It will invisibly monitor your hard drive's status (using a technology called SMART and based on statistical analyses performed by researchers at Google) and will only bother you when it detects an impending failure.
Also, if you're an advanced user and would like to get under the hood, Smart Drive will give you access to the raw SMART data and allow you to assess your hard drive's health yourself.
(Note that backups, e.g. using Time Machine, are always a good idea, whether your hard drive seems to be failing or in top shape.)
