Pretty damn annoying that one needs to purchase a code for EVERY USER on a single machine.

We're stuck using one user account to listen to music because, right now, we don't think we should have to buy another one so my wife can more...

I purchased the boom application for my macbook pro and for the past few weeks I keep getting update information which I download. For some reason, though I purchased this program, it is no longer available to me. When I launch the program a message pops up saying the trial version has expired... Anyone else have this problem?

I love the features of Boom, and its flexibility in creating my own configurations, but BOOM frequently "DISAPPEARS"! Ya, it seems to just uninstall itself, and I have to come back here to download and install again.
Granted, that's only an inconvenience, not a tragedy. But still, it's weird and a bit of a pain in the a**

Without revealing proprietary methods, generally, how can Boom, or any "sound enhancement" software, boost volume w/o also adding or enhancing distortion? What I've found is listener fatigue increases the longer I listen to source audio through additional electronic enhancement of a PC's own amplification.

It's best feature is the equaliser. Shouldn't be any fatigue from that.

Works great under 10.8.5, 10.9.3 and 10.6.8… So, don't respect the limitation "Intel, OS X 10.7 or later!

Too buggy!

After installing I was impressed by the output increase while listening to iTunes on my MacBook Pro with and without my Logitech Z623 speakers.

But as time goes by I find more problems caused by Boom.
The first thing I noticed was when I made calls via Google Voice: There was a bad echo so one at a time I tried turning off the Volume and Equalizer switches. The sound cut out altogether and then the person I was talking to hung up since they couldn't hear me.
Now I must remember to turn Boom off before making calls.

When watching YouTube vids, there is constant popping when either switch is turned on.

I also noticed cracking in the high end when listening through my headphones, even at low volumes.

It seems the only thing Boom is good for is listening to audio/video through speakers and needs to be disabled the rest of the time. Unfortunately it takes 4 clicks to enable or disable Boom (takes me 5 because it's hidden in Bartender's menu).

And there's 3 icons below the EQ that look like they should do something but don't. They are supposed to indicate what that section of the EQ is for, but are really pointless (IMO).
One shows a head wearing headphones, so I thought it would enable a headphones filter but it doesn't do anything.

I have the Logitech Z-2300 THX-Certified 2.1 and although boom increases the base at low volumes there is a fair amount of distortion. The speakers I have can provide much better quality sound without distortion simply by turning up the volume and increasing the base.

Confusion solved: v1.8.1 is the current version of Boom. The only reason there is a v1.9 is to distinguish it from the non-Apple App Store version. The App Store has restrictions that require recoding of apps. Giving the App Store versions unique numbers is required in order to tell them apart. If anything, the App Store versions of apps are LESS capable than direct-from-the-developer versions.

IOW: v1.9 adds nothing new compared to v1.8.1. Annoying, isn't it.

Thanks for clearing that up buddy :-) I was wondering what the heck was going on. At first I thought this app was becoming an App Store only app, which would have been dreadful!

Hi Derekcurrie,

We have released Boom v1.9 in Mac App Store only and we will be pushing the update for website version in around 7-10 business days.

We have not updated the listing in MacUpdate, it has fetched data from Mac App Store.

But that's opposite of what I usually experience. I get tired of the Apple App Store because it takes a couple weeks for what developers release publicly to catch up on the App Store due to Apple's vetting process. So, Huh?

Anyway, thank you GlobalDelight for the clarification!
