I really like the Collections app so far. I am very new to MAC and still learning my way around. Entering my books, music and DVD's into the app is pretty fast and easy. Is there a way to fully edit the add blank item features? I would like to be able to add the book, cd or DVD cover and also edit the publisher and publish dates. I have searched the help file and google and haven't found anyway to accomplish this.

Hello, I received an email about a week ago with a very similar question to yours. If you made the question, I hope my response has been good. But, just in case.

You can use the Creators field to assign the author and/or the editor.

There are several ways to assign a cover to an item. To assign a cover image to your item.

Select an item.
Drag and drop an image from Finder to the item's preview in the properties inspector, if the properties inspector is not visible, select, View > Show Info.
Select Item > Cover > Assign.
Select (the menu item) Item > Cover > Find, if that does not work Select, Edit > Find Cover, enter some keywords and hit return.

Unfortunately, this software is basically just like iTunes with a different look and a "borrowed" feature. It is limited to the exact same formats for files that iTunes is limited to. It only lists items in your iTunes library. You can not drag a folder with various formatted files in it (.avi, .mp4, .flv, .m4v) and have those items added. You must add items ONE FiLE AT A TIME. And remember, they must be iTunes supported formats so many files simply can't be added.

Honestly, use iTunes. Collections is merely iTunes + a "borrowed" feature and it is ABSOLUTELY not worth $30.

Oh boy, based on your "review"… I think I need to extend the app description…

Firstly, the app was created to catalog, browse, import and share your music, movies, TV shows and books, so you can keep a digital record of your actual items, retrieves all the information from the internet.

Secondly, this app is not a media player, was not created to list items on your hard disk. The app allows you to create tracks, and if you want you can also assign an URL to those tracks, but (I must be clear on this) the app was not created for this, this functionality is just a bonus.

The library (or content) of iTunes, is loaded by a plug-in (there are three types of plug-ins for now, exporters, importers and libraries), so you can compare the items in Collections agains the iTunes library (for whatever reason you can imagine) and/or to copy items from iTunes. These plug-ins are called "Collections Library", and they can load basically anything, photos, movies, PDF files from folders and/or from other applications, etc (by the way, if someone has any idea for a plug-in please let me know). If you or someone else wants the contents of the folder "Movies" (for example) is shown by the application, a plug-in is the answer, again these functionalities are just an extra bonus.

All the best,
Dante.

I meant "your real items"… "so you can keep a digital record of your real items".

Wow! Quite the price jump from version 1.0 (FREE), I wish I was able to download it from the Apple Store then... That way it would recognize it as already purchased!

It's a nice little piece of software but a little too pricey for me to continue with its growth. :(

Hi, Dumond,

The free version of the app works exactly as the pay version, but limited to 50 items.

All the best,
Dante.

Doesn't seem to work on 10.6.8. EXTREMELY buggy! Covers not appearing from itunes collections, nothing happens when I add from amazon, nothing happens when I add blank.

Looks nice, just wish I could use it!

Also, "View as" icon, search field and scale slider is unclickable. And when the app is opened, it opens in the background... I need to click on the dock icon a second time to bring it to front.

Call me weird, but I'm not sure I entirely trust a piece of software when the 'developers web site' link leads to a mobile me gallery.

I was about to justify myself by saying that I have little free time and I'd rather use that time to improve the app but while I was writing this reply suddenly I changed my mind.
You know what?, you're right, I've been delaying the creation of the website for months and I think it's time to create a new one, I'll do my best to have a website as soon as possible.

This looks like a fantastic app - exactly what I have been looking for. Unfortunately I can't get it to load! Using SnowLeopard 10.6.
Can the developer provide an update or advice on getting it to work? Would love to use it. Thanks.
