AirPrint Activator is the next generation software that will be compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. It is a complete re-write of the original and no longer depends on Apple's support of AirPrint inside the OS. What that means is that even if Apple remove support for Airprint is future Mac OS X update it will keep running. The new release is no longer requiring "Administrator" privileges either. This is a good thing for the security conscious. The down side is that AirPrint will only work if your are logged in using the user that activated AirPrint. This new version also allow you to

Version 2.2b4:
Bug fix release: Fix issue with Stealth mode report and annoying "New version" warning.
I saved money with this app. I was about to shell out 200 for a airprint capable printer to use with my ipad. Now my deskjet F4400 works great. It was well worth the donate.
Balance is an open-source load balancing tool. It's likely the means by which AirPrint Activator 2.2b1+ avoids requiring that you add custom rules to your firewall. But to allay your concern, you should contact the developer directly rather than posting to a forum where they may not notice your concern.
Elegant, free, works flawlessly with 1 iPad2, 2 iPhone 4 printing to a Brother MFC7440N over wifi (using MBPro as server). Until iOs5 or later can rip postscript to a laser printer, this is the solution. If the iDevice occasionally doesn't print, toggling the APActivator restores full function.
I can not download AirPrint Activator - when I try to go to the website it tries to go to http://127.0.0.1/... for some reason. Is anyone else having this problem downloading it?
I'm wanting to try this application to see if it will enable compatibility for my HP Photosmart printer with my iPhone. currently the printer isn't showing up in the list of printers to share. I was wondering if this is because I have it connected to the airport base station via ethernet, and if connecting it by the usb port will fix this, or if the printer joust won't worth AirPrint. It sounds like from the description, it would work over usb maybe.
OK, so i've plugged the printer into my airport extreme's usb port, and reconfigured it to be shared by the base station over usb, instead of ethernet. However it's not showing up in AirprintActivator's list of printers available for AirPrint. Printer model is: HP Photosmart C5180, it's connection options are ethernet, or usb. I changed from ethernet to usb as the description says AirPrint activator can't deal with tcp/ip and printers yet Usb still doesn't cause the printer to show up, so if someone could help, I could use the help.
Sorry for all the posts, I fixed it. I found the instructions on the developer's site. I didn't realize i needed printer sharing turned on in addition. I thought the base station was supposed to take the place of having to have printer sharing on on the mac too. Either way, it works perfectly. Just tried a print job from my iPhone and it works.
Loaded on my iMac with OS 10.7.2. Trying to print from iPad 2 with IOS 5.0. I can see my Epson Artisan 710 when I set up the AirPrint but when I print, nothing happens. I printed from the iMac normally, but when I tried again from the iPad, no joy. Please advise.
AirPrint Activator is not working for me.
I can "see" printers and send a document, but It goes to iPad's "Print Center" and doesn't seem to go anywhere from there. Nothing prints. Any ideas? Could my NetGear N750 router be a factor? Printers are HP 7280 and HP 4100.
I ran the program and deactivated it, but it seems to still be showing up on my iPhone when I click on print from Safari. Maybe it's something else, but it doesn't seem to deactivate properly.

This new version also allow you to AirPrint to non local shared printers like an Airport Expressed based printer. AirPrint Activator listen to all local network printer advertisements and make them available via AirPrint. If it is shared and visible by your Mac it will be advertised. (but non locally attached printers don't work yet… need to figure out how to get this to work. If someone want to contribute code to handle TCP port address translation be my guest!)
