Easy to download. Simple to install and configure. Worked first time and very quickly. Interface looks a bit clunky but it doesn't interfere with functionality. It just saved me a lot of time. Can't comment on stability at this stage, but the review demands it so I'll guess on a 4.5. It may not work on the next file I try. Still, I've sent my donation.

It worked for me! I have a couple of pdf files that I can open but I can't edit. Thanks to this app I made an editable version of those pdf.

I give 4 stars instead of 5 because I think the way the tab panes switch between them is disturbing.

horrible, it doesnt crack the password but like others creates an image of the orignal and saves it as "unlocked" witch in no way is unlocked just screen printed and saved the find ocr features of the original are gone ty but no ty

Well it works but it is Nagware.

Every single time it says it has failed with method 1 and at the end nags for a donation.

Further it strips the name off and replaces it with "Unlocked copy", which opens in Preview, which is a cause of much futzing about in Lion which doesn't save to where the file was opened.

This program is free, donations welcome.
Calling it NagWare is a little unfair. Just uncheck the box in the preferences that says "Remind me to donate". Thats all there is to it.

Also, replacing the name with Unlocked Copy is a preference. You can choose how to save the unlocked PDF, replacing the name is just one of the options.

Thanks for the information, just it is quite clumsy.

I've gone back to using Ovid's pdf Recover, which is faster and more productive, even though that could be improved.

I paid for pdf Recover and I'd pay for PDF Unlock but it would need to work reliably, with less steps (try one) and a more useful result.

Used it on one locked pdf and received 67 blank pages. This program may work for some, but not for me. Good luck! If it works for you, please donate to the developer.

When I tried unlocking a PDF document using your program I received strange results. When I dragged the PDF document into the PDFunlock message box I would get an error box stating that that the "1st method of unlocking was unsuccessful" and then the program would go on to try the second method. A new PDF document would open up only with NO text whatsoever on the pages. I've also tried it the brute force way and the document also came up with textless pages. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi,
PDFUnlock uses many different methods in an attempt to unlock the PDF. It seems it is unable to unlock every locked PDF. I try to add more methods as I find different types of locked files. In its defense it is free ;)

Under 10.6.8, when I try to launch this a dialog pops-up from the Finder saying "You can't open the application PDF Unlock because it may be damaged or incomplete." and its icon is displayed with the dreaded "no exit" symbol. What gives?

I'm unable to duplicate the problem.
Have you tried downloading the application again? Maybe the download was corrupt or incomplete.
This is the only report of this problem, with 16,500 downloads. If you still have problems then visit our website and follow the email link to contact us. I'll see if I can offer some assistance.

This is a fabulous app. However, the latest update (v1.2.2) is not OS X 10.4 compatible as stated under 'System requirements'!!
